DA KICKBACK

Getting into the mess, the state of the U.S. & taking all the thoughts and prayers.

We Recommend

Cherika is bringing the wisdom with KevonStage's latest book "Successful Failure" and his conversation on the "Let's Try This Again" podcast with B. Simone. It's all about how your biggest mess-ups can be the path to your biggest blessings.

Sabrina is getting into some real true-crime with not one, but two podcasts for you. There's "Scamanda" podcast and Hulu documentary about a woman who faked cancer to scam her community, and "Unicorn Girl," about a woman who seemed to have a perfect life but was actually a master of deception.

And finally, EB has a couple of powerful picks for the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina: the National Geographic documentary "Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time" and Spike Lee’s follow-up documentary, "If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise."

This month our recommendations are a blend of personal safety, dramatic storytelling, and supporting black businesses. Sabrina offers "Bo Society & Books" which promotes personal growth and empowerment through a range of Christian books and an optional membership program. She also recommends "The Gift of Fear," a book offering insights into intuition and self-protection. For screen time, Cherika suggests the film "Sinners". EB came through with two Netflix series: "Sweet Magnolias" a heartwarming story of female friendship and life in a small Southern town, and "Ransom Canyon" a romantic Western saga centered on ranching families and their struggles in Texas. Cowboy Carter must have EB in a country mood. Check it all out below!

Our greatest recommendations will always be tied to getting to know Jesus Christ and being a light in this world.  It's no surprise then that our final recommendations are all resources to stay in God's word and grow in your knowledge of Him and yourself! Sabrina kicked things off with Devotional Classics edited by Foster and Smith. This book puts together some of the best thoughts from the family of Christ. Cherika's recommends, 52-weeks In the Word, comes with a book, podcast and workbook as it leads you on a journey to finish the Bible in a year. EB closes us out with two recommends from Jackie Hill Perry, the first being a 60 day devotional entitled, Upon Waking, to help break into the habit of being in the word and the second, Gay Girl, Good God, being a look at Jackie's path to settling in to who Christ called her to be.
