Russian astrophysicist Nicolai Kardashev is a hero of mine. He believed in a human future, in space.

In the 60s he defined what is now known as the Kardashev Scale:

Kardashev Level 1 - your civilisation uses all the resources of your home planet

Kardashev Level 2 - your civilisation uses all the resources of your home solar system

Kardashev Level 3 - your civilisation uses all the resources of your home galaxy

In 1999 I designed and published a board game called 6 Billion (our human global population was 6 Billion in 1999). I envisaged our civilisation of 6 billion humans advancing from a K-1 to a K-2 civilisation then...6 trillion humans live in our solar system, heading to the stars and eventually becoming the K-3 civilisation in our Milky Way galaxy.

Er...

Inspired by the Luc Besson film "Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Stars".

The genesis of this track was the sound from the last minute or so from

https://soundcloud.com/dacca/this-one-life

I really liked this sound, and wanted to see where I could take it.

As I developed Doppelgänger I was then reminded of an earlier track of mine:

...and that memory in turn influenced this track.

A fusion of acoustic guitar, wah wah and funk riffs...with plenty of drums and percussion. One of my Apple Loop creations.

Somehow I managed to play around with English Medieval music and Traditional Chinese music to achieve what sounded like cultural harmony to me.

It's not a political statement, it's a musical statement.

The world would be better off with more musicians and fewer politicians. There, THAT'S a political statement.

I freely admit that I knew nothing of Beltane prior to creating this track. It's the Anglicised name for the Gaelic May Day festival popular in Ireland, Scotland and The Isle Of Man.

As it happens I was feeling quite Celtic (I'm half Scottish) and so I was searching out Celtic sounds in Logic Pro X to round out My Celtic Tracks playlist, and discovered the various Beltane instruments. Beautiful!

I hope I did it some justice.

I've just finished watching all 4 seasons of the 'Black Sails' T.V. show from Starz. They cleverly mix historical pirates and other characters with figures from Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island'. I highly recommend it for fans of pirate action.

I felt inspired to try and create a pirate inspired track, using Apple Loops!

This track I've dedicated to the portrayal of pirate Anne Bonney played magnificently by Clara Paget. Bonney was in fact Irish (her character in Black Sails does sound English). I've used a mix of Irish and Scottish instruments to try and create an appropriate pirate sound.

Let me know what you think...and watch Black Sails!

There are times in our lives when we feel alone with the universe, and we realise...this is it, this is our one shot at life.

Live it to the max!
