Ryan wants to grow his audience for piano music.

We talk about which platforms to focus on, how to stay consistent, and whether or not live streaming should be a part of his strategy for audience building.

He's currently publishing one video a week (which is good), but ideally he needs to increase his posting to multiple times per week to really grow his audience.

  • 201: Find Your Passion – Overlap #2
Overlap is a book I wrote for anyone wanting to start a business while working a full-time job.

This weekly lecture series features my commentary on the book, one chapter at a time. It differs from the audiobook in that it's not merely a reading of the book.

The way I'm approaching this series is by thinking of it in terms of how I would deliver the book to you in my own words if we were speaking together personally.

  • 199: Finish Your Side Project – Side Projects #1
Side Projects is a weekly show featuring Cory Miller, who has a side project called http://vlogology.com where he helps people get started vlogging.

Until recently, the site was mostly a langing page that lead to an email list signup. Cory shares weekly insights on vlogging in his email newsletter.

However, his vision for Vlogology is much greater than a newsletter. He's been working hard behind the scenes to launch an entire "course" that is publicly visible and accessible on his site. He wants Vlogology to be a valuable resource that people will share.

While working hard to finish his course, he decided to just launch what he has already and commit to publishing a new lesson publicly every week. This way, he's able to invite people to subscribe to get notifications via email.

This is the first episode in an on-going series that anyone with a side project will enjoy.

  • 198: Five Habit Tracker
Most other habit trackers have many rows for tracking dozens of habits—ranging from the big important habits, all the way down to silly habits.

You see people making cool designs, marking boxes with "X"es, or filling them with pretty colors.

But at some point, the focus shifts from doing the important things to tracking habits for the sake of tracking habits. 🤔

Eventually, you’re tracking so many habits, you also have to build the habit of tracking habits!

    • I wanted something simple.
    • I needed something practical.
    • I just wanted to focus the most important habits in my life.

The Five Habit Tracker is an exercise in limitation.

You can track your habits with a hand drawn habit tracker or with a digital habit tracker.

Ryan is looking for other ways to monetize his piano-playing skills besides performances. We talk about creating and selling products, building an audience, staying consistent with output, and teaching what you know.

We cover course creation as well as how to validate your course idea before you make it—even if you don't have much of an audience right now.

Finally, how soon should you try to monetize your audience? What is the golden ratio of giving vs. asking?
