When Terry was in Italy, she met an amazing woman who gave her the greatest metaphor about working harmoniously together.
“A minestrone is just like people…"
In this episode of the Daily D.OS.E™, we will dive into the wonder of uniqueness, and how we can collectively make this planet AMAZING!
As Terry says, “It’s the differences that make it a beautiful world."
Imposter syndrome is a behavioral health phenomenon described as self-doubt of intellect, skills, or accomplishments among high-achieving individuals.
But, what if we dig deeper?
Where does this self-doubt come from?
What does this reaction mean?
In this enlightening episode of the Daily D.O.S.E, we delve deep into Imposter Syndrome, uncovering its roots and understanding the chemical reactions we all feel. Let’s unmask Imposter Syndrome and find out how it can serve us.
"PROGRESS over PERFECTION" can be a real cop out for sloppy work when used out of context. Without intending it to be so, our "minor mistakes' can turn into very costly "silent bleeds".
Often a simple oversight or a lack of personal quality control over our own work standards can cause the correction of the task to be handled 5-6 times. That becomes very costly over time.
We don't do anyone any favors by overlooking what can seem like minor errors ... progress, in and of itself, is not enough.
Yes, everybody makes mistakes, but should we be so complacent about them, and what can we do to minimise them going forward?
LEARNING - Our favorite word here at IGNITE Humans. In fact, it’s everything! We believe that without learning, we have nothing.
In this D.O.S.E, Terry will give a sneak preview of her new book “The Perfect Storm” and explain why so many people think learning sucks! When learning something new, our bodies have a chemical reaction and it can be scary. It begs the question, are we anxious or are we just addicted to feeling good?
You can’t grow if you don’t learn, so just breathe - and let’s LEARN!
Micro-managing - what a term! We live in a world of sound bites and while terms like this might make for a quick insight into a much larger topic, they usually fail to factor in all of the components, and more importantly, CONTEXT.
In this episode of of our Daily D.O.S.E™ Podcast we look at the 4 levels of competency and how this concept plays a massive role in deciding whether we need to micro or macro manage someone 'on a specific task or behavior'. I say specific because no-one is all or nothing of anything.
As a manager, we need to be cognizant of where our team sit in terms of competency within the responsibilities of their role, and a solid skills audit (an essential precursor) done regularly will assist us in determining this.
If we are being managed, let's put our ego and the need to show we know to the side. Rather than become defensive and offended that we may be being micro-managed, let's have a healthy, respectful conversation with our Manager, and and discover why we're being micro-managed and why we feel it would beneficial to have a bit more free reign.
Cup Filler or Cup Driller?
We all have “emotional cups” - both positive and negative, and it wasn’t that long ago that (generally) a person only needed 3 positives to 1 negative to feel good. That has doubled in recent times to high performing teams requiring a ratio of 6:1! We’re living in a hyper world - hyper critical, hyper sensitive, hyper insecure, so much so that many of us can only tend to see the negative in ourselves and others. Cup Drilling does nothing to enhance or build the esteem - complaining, judging, and criticizing just weaken ourselves and others. Great Cup Fillers have never been needed more on this planet, but being a great Cup Filler is not that easy. Many of us can tend to give “empty calorie” compliments (you’re AH-MAAAZ-ING!!!). We need to give “full calorie” comments which pertain to the skill, behavior, trait or act the person did - and can repeat. Just ask yourself, “Can they DO my compliment?” You can’t DO AH-MAAZ-ING! Cup Filling is just one of our “emotional muscles” and there is no better way to build your muscles than to exercise them - so let’s get some serious Cup Filling action happening - with our loved ones, our customers, our team and most of all, ourselves! Happy Cup Filling!
Sometimes feedback can feel like a shocking sting. Why is that? More importantly, what can we do to use it to our advantage? Let's learn how to turn emotions into D.O.S.E's!
