John intentionally repeats his addresses to add emphasis: don't miss the truth of who you are and what you possess in Christ. 1 John 2:14 expands on the identity of the young men, stating they are strong because "the word of God remains in you". John uses this parallel structure—speaking to children, fathers, and young men again—as a fatherly charge or blessing, preparing them for future challenges. The word remaining (menow) in us means it is deeply tethered to our spirit, establishing Christ as our anchor and giving us peace. This strength allows us to overcome the evil one, just as Christ did in the wilderness using Scripture. As blessed people, we are called to be a "thoroughfare," letting the word work out issues in our heart and flow onto our lips into the lives of others. Key Scripture: I have written to you young men because you are strong and the word of God remains in you. And you have overcome the evil one (1 John 2:14). Is God’s Word deeply remaining in you, acting as your anchor? How can you ensure you are a spiritual "thoroughfare" and not a "cul-de-sac" today?. Knowing who you are, testify through your life, love, and actions.
