A lot about God's and Jesus' lordship today, including the story of the transfiguration. We've had a lot of hard words through our reading lately, so it's good to remember that God is sovereign and worthy of majesty.

Today is about relationships. God's relationship with his people, and Jesus' relationship with his disciples. And his relationship with us, as he predicts his own death.

Challenging words today. God challenging his people, the people challenging God, Jesus challenging his disciples. Being a disciple isn't about carrying a title, it's about carrying a cross.

Neat connection between the old and new testaments talking about what defiles you and what doesn't. We're not to pursue a purity code, we're meant to follow a Savior.

Lot of ups and downs today. Psalm 51 is an often-quoted Psalm of confession, the product of King David's sorrow. But at the end of the day, Peter gets to (briefly) walk on the water with Jesus.

More angry Psalms.  More judgment. This part can be something we wade through to get to the happier sections, but remember that God is sovereign, and he calls us his children.

Our Lord is a mighty warrior. Justice is his, and his Kingdom is breaking through.

Sometimes the Bible seems like an awkward conversation, one you'd like to slip out of the room to avoid. Don't. Learn to be honest with God. The people we trust are the ones with whom we can be that honest.

Sometimes the Psalms aren't happy, and sometimes Jesus says some hard things. Both of those going on in today's scripture.

Scripture can form us into the people God means us to be. Let it do its work in you.
