And if you want those big results then you better be prepared to take action in a really big way!

Don’t rely on motivation alone to achieve your goals. Here’s why. When we start a new pursuit, whether it’s designing a brand-new project, writing your next book, or launching a fresh product idea, we’re excited and can’t wait to begin. But as time goes on, the excitement can begin to fade. Just think about how many people you know that fail their New Year’s Resolution each year because the fire they initially had for achieving their goal burned out after just a few weeks. That’s why motivation alone isn’t enough. The late great Zig Ziglar said, “Motivation gets you going, and habit gets you there.” That means it’s important to structure your activities, build routines, and create the necessary positive habits that will help ensure your success.

Maybe this person is a top athlete, musician, artist, or businessperson. Does this person only show up once in a while? Or has this person developed the habit of showing up “game ready” on a consistent and daily basis? I’m willing to bet it’s the latter. What about you? Do you want to develop stronger relationships with those in your circle of influence? No matter what area of life you’re trying to improve, creating the right routines will help you get there much faster. Plus, once you get what you want, having the right routines will help you stay in the winner’s circle.

He said, “Habits formed at youth make all the difference.” What habits do you have that were formed during your youth? Are they good, bad, or otherwise? If they’re good, then keep doing them. If not, then remember, it’s never too late to create a better habit.

Novelist and screenwriter John Irving said, “Good habits are worth being fanatical about.” As many of you know, recently I joined two different challenges. One fitness related and the other business related. I’ve been proactively creating the habits of daily exercise (either walking or running each day) and producing consistent video content. Every day I’m excited to get some exercise and I’ve been looking forward to publishing better content as I progress through this challenge and beyond. What about you? Motivational speaker and best-selling author Brian Tracy said, “Successful people are simply those with successful habits.” Think of a successful person that you know. Maybe you know them personally or follow them closely with the work they do. Have you ever wondered how that person got to where they are? Some folks might look at that individual and think they’re lucky or that it came out of nowhere because fate smiled at them. But chances are, if the person is truly successful, that it’s because they built successful habits. They didn’t get there by accident. They got there because they worked hard, developed the right habits, and made daily progress towards achieving their goals. The best part is this: if someone else did it then so can you. You just have to develop those successful habits that Brian Tracy was talking about.

How do you bring enthusiasm into your daily activities? If you think you need to bring more enthusiasm into your life, then make it a conscious effort until it becomes a habit.

Recently I joined two separate challenges. One was a 30-day step challenge with my colleagues. The other was a 21-day video challenge with a coaching group. While I consider myself both an avid runner and content creator, both have challenged me to be consistent every single day and pushed me to get out and make it happen, especially on those days when I felt like taking it easy or even being lazy. My question to you is, are you challenging yourself to grow? You don’t have to necessarily join a challenge, but I have found them to be great opportunities to learn, grow, and keep yourself accountable to getting things done. Plus, they can be tons of fun. Today I’m challenging you to push yourself just a bit harder. Find a buddy that will hold you accountable or join a group and start a fun challenge to push each other and achieve bigger victories together.
