Foreign ministers from the bloc's 27 member states struck the agreement during a meeting in Brussels. The move follows a similar move by US President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria, that was announced in Saudi Arabia last week.

    The leaders of Britain, France and Canada are warning of action against Israel if it does not end its military assault and the blockade on Gaza. In a joint statement, they said Israel's denial of vital supplies to the civilian population is “unacceptable” and risks breaching international law. Husam Zomlot is the Palestinian Ambassador to the UK. He says that the statement by Canada, France and the UK threatening action against Israel if it does not stop a renewed military offensive in Gaza and lift aid restrictions is “19 months late”, but is nevertheless “very significant”.

    The leaders of Britain, France and Canada have warned Israel that their countries would take action if it does not stop a renewed military offensive in Gaza and lift aid restrictions. “The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable and risks breaching International Humanitarian Law,” a joint statement released by the British government said. “We oppose any attempt to expand settlements in the West Bank. … We will not hesitate to take further action, including targeted sanctions.” After nearly three months of a total blockade, the World Health Organization issued a stark warning on the humanitarian crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying “two million people are starving”.

  • Ukraine's Zelenskyy met with JD Vance at the Vatican to discuss ceasefire progress
    US President Donald Trump is due to speak with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia later on Monday. He's expected to push for an end to the Ukraine war. On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met US Vice President JD Vance during Pope Leo's inauguration at the Vatican. It was their first meeting since their dramatic argument at the White House in February. The US and western powers want a 30-day unconditional ceasefire to allow for peace negotiations. The first high-level talks between the two sides since the start of war were held in Istanbul last week.
