God created humans to connect with one another through relationships. Not superficial connections, but ones that require us to expose who we really are to one another and yet find acceptance, love, and belonging. Genesis 2 reminds us of this truth, which stands in stark contrast to the superficial communities we hide in instead.

Rest is not just good for our bodies, but it is necessary for our souls. Without rest, we start to hyper-focus on the things we deem important in our life instead of the blessed and sanctified work God has done in our lives and continues to work out as we put our faith and trust in Him. In the age of helicopter parenting, it is hard to fathom that God has never hovered over humankind to ensure we stay within the boundaries He set for us, learning the lessons He desires for us to learn, or even taking care of the things He has given us. Genesis 1 and Psalm 8 are glorious reminders to us all that God's parenting style is based on trust and a loving relationship that He desires we reciprocate towards Him and those around us.

By nature, every one of us is forgetful and unable to remember exactly what we have done, said, and experienced with complete accuracy. For this reason we take pictures, record videos, buy souvenirs, and write in journals. In Genesis 1 we see a similar recording written to provide the reader of the clarity of a very good beginning and how it unfolded.

If God is good all the time, why it is that we can't see consistent goodness in our lives? The reality of goodness is that it is cumulative and too often we only focus on seeing the end product of goodness instead of the smaller "good things" that God brings together to ultimately create something that is "very good." Genesis 1 reminds us that God has been working "good" things into "very good" outcomes since the beginning of time.

God is not a taskmaster with a set of rules in His one hand and a rod of disciple in His other. Instead, He is the source of truth who invites us to discover, learn and grow in truth as we immerse ourselves in knowing Him more. 1 John 5, John summarizes his letter that God's invitation to all believers is to be lifelong learners in knowing Him who is true that in doing so we are deceived by the lies of the world and miss out on an eternal life of learning and growing in truth.
