Take a look at what you do on a regular basis. Figure out the things that you need to be adding to your routine and the things that you need to be eliminating from your routine.
Simple little success habits can make a huge difference in your life over time.
They are the easy things to do, but they are also the easy things not to do.

347: This Is How Successful People Deal With Self-Doubt

Everyone has self-doubt. But the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that the unsuccessful let their self-doubt stop them. Successful people recognize their self-doubt, they explore it. Their figure out the capabilities that they need to overcome that self-doubt and either go and gain those capabilities, or even better, find the right person that already has those capabilities.

In our group coaching call for The Confident Athlete Program we were discussing the power of self-talk. I was telling the group how we needed to talk to ourselves like we would talk to our best friend and it made me think of a story that Vera Jo Bustos had shared with me. I have Vera Jo share the story in this episode.

Growing up, Amberley’s family environment was very competitive. Her siblings participated in everything from sports to gymnastics, but Amberley found her niche in rodeo. From a young age Amberley had a great sense of communication with her horses and connected with them on a very personal level. Her mom really had a hand in cultivating her passion, and before long she was competing in barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping, and goat tying. In 2009, she qualified for the National High School Finals in the pole bending and won the National Little Britches Rodeo Association All-Around Cowgirl World Championship. Her parents had reinforced in her that, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. That was Amberley’s objective every day during practice and in competition which accredited to a large part of her success. Amberley was very active in FFA during her adolescent years, and in 2010 was elected the Utah FFA State President. The leadership and communication skills she gained in the organization have been invaluable to her and thus the organization is very dear to her. Amberley was excited for 2010 and had her sights on college, finishing out her FFA office term, competing in college rodeo, and preparing for the upcoming changes in her life. She was completely unaware of the magnitude of the change to come.
On January 10th, 2010 Amberley was on her way to the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo. As she was passing through Sinclair, WY she took a look down at her map. After only seconds she looked up and realized she had faded into the other lane, headed towards a metal beam. In an effort to get back in her lane, Amberley overcorrected. Her truck slid off the road and rolled and she was ejected from the vehicle. She was slammed into a fence post that broke her back and immediately she lost feeling in her legs.
After five hours of emergency surgery the doctor’s prognosis was she would never regain use or feeling below her waist. He told her if she had worn her seatbelt, she would still have use of her legs. The one mistake she made that day changed her life forever, but it has not defeated her competitive spirit. The top priority for Amberley was not even to walk, but to ride her horses again. Remarkably after only 4 months after the accident, she was back on her horse.
Amberley now is inspiring thousands across America by telling her inspirational story and competing in rodeos across the western United States. She has let the challenges she faces refine her, not define her.
She was voted the fan exemption contestant at the world’s richest one day rodeo, comparable to the Super Bowl, RFD-TV’s The American. She competed with the best in the industry and received a standing ovation from over 40,000 fans in AT&T Stadium and won over the hearts of America. Amberley has turned her tragedy into triumph and is inspiring all of America to Get Back on the Horse.

342: Is It More Important To Win Or Not Lose?

Is it more important for you TO WIN? Or NOT LOSE?
As I continue to talk about mindsets, today I want to talk about Promotion Mindsets and Prevention Mindsets
As we seek our success in life, we want to have more of a Promotion Mindset
How would you approach this? This is an example I use in The High Achievers Mindset Secrets Program.
Basketball Player
- Fouled on a three-point shot at the final buzzer
- They were down 3
- She got 3 shots to potentially tie the game and send it to overtime
If this is you, are you more focused on making those shots to WIN the game, or not to LOSE?
If you’ve got a Promotional Mindset you’re focused on the WIN
If you’ve got a Prevention Mindset, you’re focused on NOT LOSING
A study done in World Cup Soccer showed that in a kickoff situation, the players that approached the situation with a Promotional Mindset had a 30% better average of scoring.
Those with a Prevention Mindset are focused on reducing risk, being comfortable and not losing. – They’re Comfort Focused
Those with a Promotion Mindset are more focused on specific result or destination. – They’re Purpose Focused
Ryan Gottfredson said, “When we do not proactively select a clear purpose or destination for ourselves, our default purpose becomes an approach toward life primarily focused on avoiding problems and enhancing comfort – a recipe for mediocrity.”
Here are a few examples that will help you identify your mindset:
- Are you the passenger (prevention) or the driver (promotion) of your life?
- Do you prioritize what is on your schedule (prevention), or do you schedule your priorities (promotion)?
- Are you a product of your environment (prevention) or the creation of your own proactive design (promotion)?
- Do you seek to do what is easy and comfortable (prevention), or do you seek to fulfill a purpose (promotion)?
Evidence shows that when an individual does not have a strong or clear purpose or destination, they generally become comfort focused, which leads to doing what is EASIEST, NOT BEST.
Gottfredson said, “When we do not have a clear purpose, goal, or destination, we develop a prevention mindset and focus on not failing, avoiding problems and risk, seeking comfort, and playing it safe. But when our goals and purpose are clear and activated, we adopt a promotion mindset aimed at succeeding, anticipating problems, taking risks, seeking gains, and making progress, even if uncomfortable.”
If you don’t have a strong, clear purpose and destination get my Momentum Series for FREE today and get it figured out.
By the way – She made all three shots, we went into overtime and WON the game!
