On the anniversary of D-Day, I compared remarks from Pete Hegseth, Ronald Reagan, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Dwight Eisenhower to examine how leaders communicate during moments of remembrance. Russia's Oreshnik missile was supposed to demonstrate power. Instead, Vladimir Putin's explanation of a recent launch triggered a wave of criticism from Russia's own military bloggers.

That explanation undercut the earlier propaganda that framed the strike as retaliation for Starobilsk, secret NATO facilities, underground bases, or major Ukrainian military targets.
