Free yourself, forgive others 4.

One of the important elements of life is to learn to forgive others so that we could be free from all the consequences of unforgiveness. The advantage of forgiving others is enormous. It affords us enjoyment of a life free from health and spiritual consequences of unforgiveness.

Interestingly, we cannot run away from human relationship, it is an essential fabric of our existence. We must therefore, commit ourselves to understanding the dynamics of human relationship. The lack of this understanding drives us to the point where either get hurt or put ourselves in a position where we will have to deal with toxic emotions. This may lead to us carrying the weight of bitterness and unforgiveness throughout our lifetime.

Jesus said in John 2 vs 23-25(TPT);

 23 While Jesus was at the Passover Feast, the number of his followers began to grow, and many gave their allegiance to him because of all the miraculous signs they had seen him doing! 24 But Jesus did not yet entrust himself to them, because he knew how fickle human hearts can be. 25 He needed no one to tell him about human" nature, for he fully understood what man was capable of doing.

This scripture is emphasizing the essence of understanding the human relationship. Jesus, the God in human flesh knew all men. He loved all men and was willing to do anything to be of help. One of the things that set apart was that He did not entrust His life to anybody. Jesus had full grasp of human relationship.

Now there are three things we can learn from the story of Michal and David. The first thing we must know and be aware of is that people have right to be wrong.  We must recognise people's right to exercise the power of choice. They have right to exercise that will at any time. Therefore, do not expect that people will return back the favour you have offered them. Sometimes, they can and sometimes, they may not. 

Secondly, you are complete in God. People may give you positive compliment, that is good. You do not need to attach your life to anybody to live a fulfilled life. Depend on God.

Finally, defeat bitterness. Bitterness could be worse than betrayal. We cannot run away from the issues of life. Issues will always come up. Michal did not understand the dynamics of the issues between her and David. She was over-powered by bitterness and became worse for it.

Human beings will always be human beings. We have the capacity to protect ourselves from unforgiveness when we truly understand human relationship and not to put ourselves in position where we are consistently hurt. 

I pray that the Lord will give us strength to be objectivs and do the right thing in every relationship.

Free Yourself, Forgive Others 2

One of the things that makes forgiving people difficult is because most of the people that hurt us are very close to us. They are people we love and value. This is the basic dynamics of unforgiveness. We feel hurt most when the source of our hurt is from people we love and cherish. However, holding on to the wrong done to us will only hurt us more. The depth of the pain is understandable considering how much we have invested emotionally in such associations or relationships. Releasing these people via forgiveness is one of the best things we can do for ourselves as holding these people in our hearts in unforgiveness will not make them suffer. 

The Bible talks about two characters that held onto unforgiveness and it did not end well with them. The first was Saul the  first king of Israel. God rejected him because he was disobedient and this led to God choosing David and an evil spirit took over Saul. Let's look at 1 Samuel 16:21;

"David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much and chose him as the man to carry his weapons."

In the scripture above the Bible gives us details into how close David was with Saul so much so that David kept guard of Saul's armour. The Bible tells us that Saul loved David, but along the line David became an Enemy of Saul. This began when David slew Goliath and the people sang the praises of David more than the did of Saul. This sparked up the hatred in Saul which led to him dying a miserable death while hunting for David.

The second character is the daughter of Saul Michal. Samuel 18:20 the Bible says...

"In the meantime, Saul’s daughter Michal had fallen in love with David, and Saul was delighted when he heard about it."

Saul and Michal had both fallen in love with David. David married Saul's daughter, but as the hatred for David by Saul increased, David had to abandon the wife and run for his life. At the later end of their life Michal had developed resentment and bitterness for David. This bitterness led to her being the only woman recorded in scripture that didn't give birth because God made her barren. The father and daughter lost out completely because of unforgiveness and refusal to release David in their hearts. 

Friends, our lives will be better when we free whoever we know that we are holding something against in our hearts.  Let's release them in our hearts and walk in freedom from bitterness and anger. May we experience the God-given grace to work in the liberty that Christ had already purchased for us through his blood in Jesus name.

Free Yourself, Forgive Others.

You  free yourself when you forgive others.

 I have heard and seen people say "I will never forgive him or her," and I realise that most times such statements are made from anger and pain. The problem is that no matter how angry one is, nothing justifies staying in unforgiveness. More danger looms over the one that stays in unforgiveness.

Holding on to unforgiveness, is like piling up emotional stones in one's life. At some point it will definitely weigh one down and even begin to tell on one's health. Sincere people will confess that unforgiveness physically tells on their bodies and in some cases, causes stomach upsets. This is as a result of negative emotions at work; it locks one up and makes one a prisoner.

It is important that we realise as quickly as possible that whatever God has said in His word isn't to His benefit, but to our advantage. Not forgiving those who have wronged us won't make God less of who He is or make Him lose His throne. It will only make us succeed in punishing ourselves. Therefore when God says that we should forgive, the first beneficiary of forgiveness is us. In Mark 6:4 (NLT) Jesus said...

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins."

In the scripture above, two things are pitched against the one who doesn't forgive. Firstly, that person will carry heavy emotional baggage around & secondly, God will not forgive the person's sins. So the crucial question is; "Is holding people in unforgiveness really worth it?"

 I truly know from the depth of my heart that we all want to be free, and that we don't want to carry unnecessary baggage in our lives. The way to go about it then, is to free ourselves by forgiving others.

I pray that God will give us the grace to release and forgive anyone that we are holding anything against for any reason Jesus name.
