We all have those occasions when we finally say, “Never mind, I’ll do it myself!” Ben Gravely had such a moment at his Dunbar home. In the early 1900s, all tractors were large and utilitarian, made for large farms and impractical for those many Americans raising gardens in backyards and small lots. So, he set about inventing a motorized plow that was portable and useful on the lesser scale of which most people worked. From there, he developed lawnmowers and other equipment that helped people tend to the needs of their property and built a company that celebrates its centennial of success in 2022.
