  • Police Brutality! Convo with Ebenezer Scrooge on Stereo

Yet again another unarmed black male has lost his life in what appears to be the use of unnecessary and excessive force on the part of a police officer in the United States. This comes after leaked footage of a police officer pepper spraying a black army general in a petrol station. Despite the efforts of many campaigners and groups, the treatment of black individuals by law enforcement in the 'first' world does not seem to be changing. The argument that systemic racism, classism and prejudice run deep in the institutions responsible for law making and law enforcement remains valid as the documented facts speak for themselves.

Mr Daley and Ebenezer Scrooge field comments from the listening audience who clearly are fed up with the victimisation and oppression that black people continue to suffer at the hands of public servants.

  • Get Off Kirk Franklin's Back!

Life comes at us at 100 miles an hour and sometimes we get a little frustrated with some of the people we love and care for. Arguments between family members occur and sometimes horrible words are exchanged between parent and child, siblings or other relations. Hopefully these things happen in private and remain in private, but what do you do when one of your family members puts this private conversation out into the public eye? What do you do when your own child puts out an edited clip with the intention of decimating your career, position, reputation and everything you have worked for?
This is the situation Kirk Franklin currently find himself in.
Whilst I am not in a position to discuss the intimate matters of this exchange as:

    1. I do not know the facts
    2. It isn't any of my business
    3. I am in no position to judge another parent
    4. it isn't any of my damn business!

I am in a position to discuss the sickening desire we have as humans to watch another persons strife play out in public and the pleasure we seem to take from cancel culture. We are fast to judge and throw stones and ignore the words of Jesus in John 8:7.
"However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said, “He who is without [any] sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

On this episode we discuss this and I offer you, The Daley Perspective!

    Show Notes:
[00:00:00] Mr Daley: The Daley Perspective is number 13 and feed spots, top 25 Christian men's podcasts, but I'd like to get to number one. So here's what I need you to do. Subscribe on your favorite streaming platforms, then share it with everyone. No, I'd appreciate that. Now let's get down to business. Here we go.

Welcome to the show that gives it to you with no fluff, real Christianity and all that good stuff. Welcome to the Daley perspective, and I'm your host, Mr. Daley So first and foremost, let me give a shout out to everyone that's listening on Spotify. Um, audible, Google podcast. Good Google podcasts, Google [00:01:00] podcasts, Apple podcast.

Breaker, pocketcast, Tune In, wherever you are listening from. I appreciate you! This week on the Daley Perspective, we are talking about that video that has been going around  of, uh, someone that I have admired for a very long time. Someone I met. When I was, um, starting out in the Christian music scene, Mr. Kirk

Franklin. But we're not talking about, at the way that everyone else is talking about it, not on, it led me to think about something else that led me to think about how we as a society. are under the spotlight. Everything that we do is be in watched [00:02:00] whether you are a celebrity or you are just regular Joe blogs, you are being watched.

Some people want to call it, cancel culture. Some people want to call it. Big Brother whatever you want to call it. The fact of the matter is as a people today, we are being watched, but let's start with this video. So what is this video about? Basically the video was put out by Kirk Franklins, eldest son. I believe he's 33 years old.

Grown-ass man. You know, but dude put this video out, trying to basically show his father in a bad light now. I am not going to [00:03:00] judge. Because I do not know Kirk Franklin son, and I am not going to judge Kirk Franklin because I do not know Kirk Franklin like that. So it is not my place to judge. If I was to judge as well, I would be doing the thing that I am.

Talking about in this episode, I would be judging people whose lives are on view.

The thing is Kirk Franklin, some put this video out and what he basically done was recorded a conversation between himself. And he's fine now, obviously that was. Something going on. It was a heated conversation. Tempers were flaring, but, [00:04:00] and this was the first thing that myself and my wife picked up on.

When we saw this video, he only put out the section where Kirk Franklin was cussing him out. That set alarm bells ringing for me straight away like, Oh, so you don't want to show us what led up to that. You don't want to show what made him flip out? What made him stop cussing? And the fact that you hear Kirk Franklins saying don't disrespect me means that clearly he son must've said something to him that set him off.

Now for people that are familiar with the story. And I guess the history I'm not, I don't get into people's business like that. My understanding is there is a history here of the son being very entitled, believing that [00:05:00] he deserves more than his dad is doing for him. Even though he's that has done a lot for him.

Um, and he feels that he's siblings he's that other children from his marriage get preferential treatment when it comes to, I guess, the attention of their father, um, and what he believes his father bestows upon these children. Now, first thing, dude, you are 33 years old. Now let me, let me put this out, then make sure this is understood.

I am not saying that a father can not help his children out. I would be a hypocrite if I said [00:06:00] that because my pops has helped me out. Many a times in my adult life, when I have hit upon difficult situations that I could not resolve on my own, but my pops ain't here paying my mortgage and my bills on a daily basis or weekly, monthly basis, whatever it's.

I work. I pay my bills. I look after my children, I look off to my wife. I feed my family. I take care of what I can take care of. Now, like I said, there have been instances where I've run into situations and some people want to set up down front. Like they ain't never, they ain't never hit on hard times or anything like that.

Got a front with you. I keep it funky. I keep it 100. Every so often in life, you will run into a [00:07:00] situation that may be bigger than you can handle at the time. There is no shame in asking for help and I've, I've had to humble myself and ask for help on a number of occasions. Cool. But I do not expect daily, weekly, monthly handouts from my father to help me see myself through life.

No, no, no, no, no. Now the understanding I have is that this is this young man's approach. He's expecting these regular handouts from his father to see him for life. He's expecting his father to keep maintaining him. And I guess there was a level of resentment because he feels he's that. Isn't doing that despite his dad's success.

But [00:08:00] my argument here, and I guess probably Franklin's argument is that you are a grown man. You have to make your own way in life. At some point, go out there into the world and make your way I have afforded you an education and other things, and I've helped you. And I've helped you to get established.

And I'm sure if he was striving to do something, he would get the support that he needs. If he's pups can offer that support, it just seems like dude wants to ride this wave and not do anything with his life and just keep getting locked off. But that's how it comes across. Now. Like I said, I am not in people's business, but that is the story that I am getting.

So with that being said, they seem to have some level of conversation which goes sideways.

[00:09:00] This guy is recording the whole conversation, but chooses to release this very short section of the conversation to the public, where his dad is cussing him out. Also, you hear him cussing out his dad. Now personally, for me, I would love to say that I would never cuss out my children like that. And. You know, my kids have got me mad.

They've got me mad, but cussed them out. Nope. But maybe because I don't really cuss ou...

  • Let's Talk! Interview With Mental Health Podcaster Izzy Baker

[00:00:00] Mr Daley: [00:00:00] Welcome to the show that gives it to you and no fluff, real Christianity and all that good stuff. Welcome to the Daley Perspective. And I'm your host, Mr. Daley. And today we are doing something a little different. We've got an interview today. I'm going to be talking to Izzy Baker. We're gonna be talking about his podcast.

But before we get into that, I want to give a shout out to everyone who's watching on YouTube. Shout out to the people that listen on Spotify, Apple podcast, Google podcast, Breaker Tune In wherever you listen from. We appreciate you. If you haven't subscribed yet, go to your favorite streaming platform and hit that subscribe button.

Subscribe and like on YouTube as well, make sure you hit the notification bell. So you get notified every time we post. So let me introduce, actually, let me hand over to my guest and let him introduce himself. So Izzy, let the people know who you are.

Izzy: [00:00:59] Hey [00:01:00] everybody. My name is Izzy Baker. I am from St. Louis, Missouri and the United States. I currently live in Houston, Texas. I I'm a writer, creative director, low key fake comedian, you know so many different things I can do, but right now, mainly I am a podcast host and the whole stuff, PSA podcast a mental health podcast.

I like to say it's the other side of mental health. And it is for mental health conscious millennials with unpopular opinions.

Mr Daley: [00:01:32] Cool. So first question for me, really? How did you get into this?

Izzy: [00:01:41] All right. So our remember was around 2017. I graduated high school, high school. I graduated college fall 16, graduated college, fall 16, and I had a job, but it ended up. I was about to get fired anyway, so I quit, but you know, post-grad depression, all that good [00:02:00] stuff kind of took place. So, you know, that's what that was.

And so I remember I was substitute teaching at the time,

dad had called me one day I was at work or after I got off work was like you know you're super creative You should create something like a blog or something.

So I originally came up with the name PSA, which is prodigy sportive attestations, which is a double meaning. So prodigy is the name of the brand.

Me and my father own sportive is the double meaning light or playful, and then attestations is something delivered as truth or news. So if you put it all together, you can say prodigy, light truth, light news, funny news, funny, truth whatever it is, long as, you know, it's kind of like something that's true, but then delivered in a way that, you know,

so it was a blog at first where I was kind of take the stuff that happened on in the world.

And I was just like, make jokes about it, you know, just kind of bring light to the situation, make jokes, but I couldn't really keep up with it. and so. [00:03:00] I took time out and I was okay. I was praying. I was thinking God, like, what can I do? What can I do? Because I felt like the name was too creative, not to be doing something with so I took a break sometimes we don't know what to do that sometimes we want to keep trying to find something sometimes just you just need to just stay back from so, around August I took a break from it and I remember I was supposed to go out with some friends one night and this was maybe early 2018 or late 2019 And I didn't go and I was watching this lady and she was like God is going to drop the idea today so I was laying in the bed and ideas just started download and so when I decided I was hearing between YouTube podcasts but then I ended up hearing podcasts was two things I always wanted to do a YouTube channel but this was before I lost weight and I'm still like toning up and stuff now so I didn't want to I didn't really like one like I was to a camera, so, and I was like podcasts I don't know. I don't even like podcasts. So I listened to them, I should say. So I ended up, it was one I listened to the whole summer. Not even [00:04:00] on purpose before I even knew I was going to do a podcast which I know was a divine set up.

And then when I decided the podcast, I said, okay, cool. So then I took about two to three weeks to just study podcasts, like the top podcasts in these categories, why they number one and drop the first episode, February of 2018. and season five comes back March 18th.

Mr Daley: [00:04:24] Right. Right. So there's some that you, you dropped a few things in that whole intro right there that I want to touch on. First one, first thing you said was postgraduate depression . I ain't even going to front. I don't even know what the definition of postgraduate depression is. So what is post-graduate depression?

How do how do you know, is it something that everyone goes through and we just don't know about it.

Izzy: [00:04:52] So a lot of people go through it. Like I said, I don't know how it is because you're in the UK. Right.

    Mr Daley: [00:04:57] right

Izzy: [00:04:58] So I don't know how it is there [00:05:00] but in the United States there's something is actually very possible most people a lot of people do go through it not everybody but it's kind of that wouldn't what now because it's like we did all this school celebrated all this and it's like now what because it's so hard and so competitive and it's so difficult to get a job unless you're trying to be a doctor a lawyer or a teacher you know it's like what now so for me I was originally going to school with the intent of being a lawyer which was something that I really didn't want to do but I was told I'd be good at it and

    Mr Daley: [00:05:38] that experience?

And what happened was I had went to visit the school. I went to Texas Southern university HBCU in Houston, Texas. Well, I live in Houston now and I had went to visit the school and they was trying to figure out me and my dad was like, well, we want to be a lawyer. So we asked the lawyer what'll be his best thing to majoring.

He said English, because that's going to be [00:06:00] the most beneficial. It will be helpful with critical analysis of the help you get through law school. And it was like worst case. If I don't go to be a lawyer, I can always

teach and so that's kind of how that happened. I was always good at English. I was an AP, I was always been a writer, my whole life, always the creative stories.

And then my junior senior year, I was in AP English, so of high school. So it kind of just aligned, which is funny with that even because in high school I didn't sign up for AP English. My teacher signed me up for AP English and said, You know, I think you can do it. I really would want you to, if you don't want to it's okay.

But I really think should and you know not even realizing all of what's happening you know it was again set. So yeah.

Oh, okay. Okay. So if I relate to that, I think in the UK, definitely we, there are a number of people that go through that situation where they've been to school. They finished, they [00:07:00] graduated. Can't get a job and they're like, well, what do I do now?

It was, my situation was a bit weird. Cause I went, I did, I finished, I got a job before I finished, so I didn't really have that lull I didn't have that downtime. But where I went to was away from home, it was the first time I'd ever left home.

    Izzy: [00:07:26] Hmm.

  • Back In The Day - To All The Girls I Loved Before

I was never the popular guy, well not in my mid teens anyway. That all seemed to change when I got to university but I was already claimed by the woman who would eventually become my wife.

Before then, I had loved some other girls, well I thought I had anyway but the reality is that I didn’t know what love was and those feelings were really just attraction and infatuation.

Those experiences had a lasting impact on me, partly because the feelings were stronger on my part than they were on the parts of the girls. I was a hopeless romantic and I guess that I felt that people meet and just fall in love like it happened in the movies.

I never desired to sleep around or to be a player. I wanted a true love, someone that I could grow with, someone who would accept me for who I am, someone who I could be myself with, be vulnerable with and cry with. Someone who could love me through anything and stand with me when times got tough. I wanted someone I could give the world to and who would want to give their all to me. These girls were not that and to be honest I am glad they weren’t because I didn’t know myself yet and neither did they. The problem is that this didn’t stop the heartache and heartbreak that these relationships caused. It didn’t stop the knock on effect of making me become guarded and afraid of being hurt. So much so that I was afraid to let any girl in, I wanted to become a player so I would not be hurt (FYI I didn’t because I just wasn’t built like that) and I became a total control freak. Everything had a place, a system and a logical place.

It wasn’t till I met my wife that my walls started to come down but it still took her 8 years to peel the onion back and get past all the layers. As as normal with onions, there were a lot of tears (on both mine and her part) as the layers came off. She helped me get past my trauma and to learn to truly love myself and her!

  • Back In The Day - I Was Way Too Judgy!

As Christians, our statement is that we are striving to be Christ like in all that we do, meaning that we are trying to  live a life that is reflective of how Christ lived when he walked this earth. The problem with that statement is that we tend to be the most judgemental people you can come across. We sit on this moral high seat calling out everyone else’s wrong doing whilst failing to see our own issues that are in plain sight. Yes, we are the definitions of hypocritical. Now that is the total opposite of Jesus. When he walked this earth he was without fault or blame. He did not commit a single sin even though he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and carried a responsibility that all the prime ministers and presidents added together could never carry.

This was my reality a few years back. I looked at the world through the lens that some things were not acceptable in the eyes of God and those people were wrong. One of those areas where I was less than gracious was my attitude toward homosexual relationships. I had no issues with having friends who were homosexual and I treated them like I treated everyone else but in my heart I was judgemental towards them because all I did was think about ‘how wrong their lifestyle was in the eyes of God’. Now this is not an episode to debate theology or to go over what is politically correct or anything of that sort. I have a clear stance that everyone is the same, everyone deserves the same respect, love, care and rights as the person standing next to them. I can’t say I stand for black lives and not stand for Jewish lives, white lives, Indian lives etc. I also cannot say I stand for straight lives and not stand for gay lives, transgender lives or queer lives. The fact is this, in the eyes of God every life holds the same value and therefore I must stand for every life in the same way.

The shift in my thinking was brought on by a simple conversation with an older couple over coffee. I don’t know what started the conversation but I am glad we had it because I would not have shifted my understanding and perspective of grace if they hadn’t instigated the conversation about homosexuality.

I think we get so caught up in right and wrong that we forget that everybody is wrong in the eyes of God and therefore everyone is in need of his grace therefore nobody is better than anybody else and nobody has any right to condemn anyone else about their life. You may not agree with their lifestyle but guess what, they may not agree with yours! God certainly doesn’t agree with your lying or hypocrisy or gossip or slander or any of the little things we seem to forget are contrary to the expectations set by Jesus. We cherry pick what makes us comfortable and define our own laws and boundaries making ourselves the modern day Pharisees and legalistic people who lack true relationship with God.

The fact is that to have true relationship with God means to be compassionate and full of grace. It means accepting people for who they are and loving them regardless.

My journey in life helped me shape what the Daley Perspective and everything I share is an honest account, no matter how embarrassing it may be to say ‘yes, I once had these views’.

  • Back In The Day - Fear Made Me Move Mad

It is so easy to sit here and judge the youth of today and label them as violent, reckless and a number of other things without really taking the time to explore some of the contributory factors to their wild and crazy lives.

We are all aware of the problems of drugs and gang violence, even if the media likes to paint the picture that it is a problem that on plagues the black community, which any individual of above average intelligence will know is a lie.

There is one element that is rarely discussed and that is the element of fear. Fear plays a major role in why a significant proportion of young people are drawn into the violent lifestyles we see today. The fear of being a victim, the fear of not fitting in, the fear of being labelled and ridiculed, the fear of being alone, the fear of not belonging etc.

I experienced this fear as a teenager and this fear was crippling. You did your best to carry on and pretend as though you were not afraid but the reality was that fear dictated your movements, your words, your actions and almost everything that you did. Growing up in South London has not changed much, the violence remains the same but the tools of violence have changed. The volume of deaths have increased because the young people have become overwhelmed by the fear and embraced the darkness that fear brings.

On this episode I talk about my experiences growing up in South London, what led me to carrying a knife and air pistol, how I overcame it and managed to live a life free of violence and fear, my experience of robbery and attempted robbery, both of which could have had fatal outcomes.

Our youth are facing a pandemic of violence and I can guarantee you that many of them are thankful for this lockdown because the don’t have to go outside and deal with the dangers of the streets and their fears.
