With so much up in the air in terms of when and how tourism in Thailand could recover post-pandemic in this so called ‘new normal’ world, here is my take on things.
We can be down beat, but I think the force and will of the people combined with low covid infection rates in the country bode well for a surge in tourism, once we see some form of global normality return.
Do take a listen to my podcast below for my full opinion on the matter.

Tyson Fury winning the WBC Heavyweight Championship belt from Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas made global headlines. Boxing is big news and the WBC is viewed as the main belt to aspire too. I was delighted therefore to meet with Kevin P. Noone, the WBC Board of Governors and Asia Secretary General to find out more about the WBC.
Kevin discusses how Thailand boasts some of the best boxers across Asia and also how the WBC is growing its involvement in Muay Thai.
For more information on the WBC involment in Muay Thai you can visit their Facebook page – Click here.
You can listen via stream below and also on Dan about Thailand’s podcast channel on iTunes and Sticher channels.

Khao San Road has long been a key attraction to tourists trying Bangkok for the first time. It is a little like Pattaya’s Walking Street or Phuket’s Patpong, but without a big girly scene or ago-go bars.
It is loud, touristy and has wide appeal to back packers, families and couples alike. But, in my opinion, it is over rated.
I stumbled quite by accident into nearby Soi Ram Buttri and a delightful venue called Alley Cat Restaurant and was instantly hooked.
Here is my podcast from one such visit to this Soi.

If you are a football fan you will be all too aware of the excitement during the transfer window, maybe this is the season your club gets the right player to bring you success!
Now although somewhat off-topic for a Dan about Thailand post, having an ex-International footballer now living in Hua Hin is too good an opportunity not to find out more on a footballers life.
Most of us would surmise the life of a footballer is all plain sailing with big bucks and a great lifestyle to boot, but that is not always the case.
Dan about Thailand spoke to ex-England and Spurs footballer Gary Stevens, who is now living in Hua Hin, about the pressures often surrounding transfer windows for players.

In this weeks podcast with ex-England international footballer Gary Stevens we put a few questions to him and positioned it like a game of football, with England taking on Thailand. We asked him a question and he had to choose which country he preferred, these options ranged from food to family.
It was somewhat of a surprise that the ‘game’ was a closer score than we initially predicted.

For many leaving the UK can be seen as a backwards step for your career in exchange for a more rewarding lifestyle, and there is some evidence of some truths to this. But, we should never pigeon hole everyone with this.
Although I would class myself as successful living here in Thailand both in terms of lifestyle and earnings, I would be lying if I didn’t admit there were times I have wondered what I would have gone on to achieve had I stayed in the UK. But I have never regretted leaving the humdrum of rat race living that would have come with that.
Gary Stevens was an ex-England and Spurs footballer and when offered the opportunity to manage football clubs in a different country – that also included Thailand – he jumped at the chance. Here is our podcast with Gary Stevens (which is every week by the way), talking about all he has learned from working abroad.

Just recently once again Hua Hin was named in one of the top 10 locations to retire by US news and world report. and so should come to no surprise to hear when ex-sports stars decide to move there. In this case, it is Ex-Tottenham Hotspurs and England footballer Gary Stevens.
Each week Thaivisa and Dan about Thailand, through host Jonathan Fairfield, interview Gary on a range of subjects, primarily football based. This week Gary was back in the UK to meet family and friends and also watch the European Cup final from the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium.
Some of the questions we posed this week were why he decided to move to Hua Hin and also, noting that he was back in the UK, was there any creature comforts he has been enjoying back there and what will he bring back to Thailand with him?

What has European football got to do with me living in Thailand I hear you ask? Well, I accept it is an odd link but for starters, like many expats, I am an avid football fan and my team Spurs will be in the European Cup Final on June 1st too. But still, I hear you ask, what am I doing posing questions on football and not something focussed on the Land of Smiles?
You see, I have a bit of a scoop. The last time Spurs won a European Final was the UEFA Cup – now known as the Cup winners cup – back in 1984 against Anderlecht and it was won on penalties.
One of the Spurs players to play on that night, and indeed score a penalty, was Gary Stevens. He now lives in Hua Hin and as such myself and media partners Thaivisa was able to get an exclusive interview with him. What we wanted to know was what was it like preparing and waiting for such an important match – just like the players and we are all doing now?
Gary offers so much fascinating unique insight that I am sure you will enjoy this podcast below as much as I did. Big thanks to Jonathan Fairfield from Thaivisa for being the host!
If you liked this please note Dan about Thailand and Thaivisa interview Gary every week on a range of topics and if you want a question answered please email me [email protected]. We record the show on Tuesday and publish later in the evening.

The Thai league 1 has thrown up a number of surprises as we reach the 10 game point and both happen at the top and bottom of the league. Firstly, Port FC are the surprise leaders – now 4 points in front of second place Buriram United – and secondly Muangthong United being bottom.
Gary Stevens, a former Port FC manager and player for Tottenham Hotspurs and England, speaks to Jonathan Fairfield on behalf of Thaivisa, Inspire and Dan about Thailand on the Thai league 1 so far.
