This one makes me think of sun rays over a windy desert. It's got a lot of potential, picking up speed and dying down again. I think I'll add vocals over this one, perhaps after the guitar solo! This idea is in G, time signature of 4/4, and it's got plenty of moments to work with!
Aimless improvising with my Fender Strat. Finally go my hands on my very first Stratocaster earlier this year. I'm obsessed with the playability of it!
Some tips for really getting inside your song's concept and lyrics. I got inspired by this technique when listening to the Dissect Podcast's coverage on Kanye's "Monster" and Frank Ocean's "Bad Religion"
Check out these amazing Adam Jones riffs I'm playing from "Rosetta Stoned". There is so much subtlety in the music he writes - he's definitely a big influence!
I like this semi-cryptic, personal, short song that I feel is well-suited to be #50! I wrote the intro riff in July 2017, but I worked on the lyrics, melodies, and solo this summer. I think it's got some potential!
Even while vacationing on Labor Day Weekend I don't stop working on the album - whether it be thinking on the lyrics, music arranging, chords, or field recording. I'm always thinking "what other sounds could I gather from the outside world?"
Someone on IG requested that I cover this song, so here it is! The backing track I found was a bit low in quality but it still gets the song across. This song is amazing, plain and simple. Maynard was actually holding on to this song for a while - you can see footage of him in his old band "CAD" playing it in 1987. FYI Tool released this song in 1994! Hold on to your ideas when you can feel they are true!
This one is confusing! Written back in around 2009/2010, it's in 10/4 and it's centered around D. There's some cool arrangement stuff going on here, though I'm not crazy about the drum sound in this recording - it's from an old drum machine. I had to do a lot of EQ to make the hi hat much less harsh, but I lost some audio quality by doing so. You still get the idea! I actually think there should be some saxophone somewhere in this song. Thoughts?
