Dancing Is Forbidden: An Aqua Teen Hunger Force Exploration

Don Shake just wants to make it big. Don't we all? Matt, Dave, and Jay join the podcast to wax poetic about Aqua Teen's live action episode. And then, afterwards, we waxed each other smooth... but I forgot to record that part. But boy do we look good!

We're hearing about why they called this one "The Last One Forever and Ever" despite being renewed for another season, who else might have played Don Shake, and who was late to filming.

Hey Running Crew, coming at you with a quick update. May was a nutso month for everyone's schedule, and between getting Jay Edwards, Dave Willis, and Matt Maiellaro lined up, we just couldn't find a window to get everyone together to record the big finale.

Things are starting to settle down, so I'm reaching back out to the guys now to get this locked in and out to you as soon as humanly possible.

In the meantime, if you're a Patreon supporter, go check the feed right now—there's an exclusive bonus episode waiting for you to fill the gap. We are doing a casual deep dive into the very first episode of the podcast as an early five-year celebration. Expect plenty of behind-the-scenes talk and a massive amount of cringing from me looking back at the early days.

Thanks for bearing with me, hope your summer is off to a great start, and I'll talk to you soon!

In this peek-behind-the-curtain episode, we finally see how the Aqua Teens pay their rent! ...and it's not great. The episode's editor (and voice!) Jay Wade Edwards tells us all about this, uhh, historically based adventure. Not only do we see the Teens fighting one of the world's worst human beings ever (well, in balloon form) - we also get a rare sight of the boys just all getting along. It's pretty sweet. Other topics discussed include the hilarious Bill Hader, observing the development of technology via ATHF, and why never learning any lessons is the best lesson... WHEN IT COMES TO BLOWING MINDS!!!!!

Fry Legs is one of the most controversial episodes among Aqua Teen fans... and one of my favorites. Ever since starting this podcast, I've been looking forward to talking about horned-up-Frylock and his romantic escapades. To judge Frylock's performance with the ladies, I brought on real-life, actual ladies - my wife Hannah and friend Wren - to see just how masterfully Frylock handles the fairer sex. (Spoilers: not well.)

Not that long ago... in this exact galaxy... Aqua Teen art director Bob Pettitt and I talked about the best Star Wars parody of all time! Bob is back on the show to talk about his kidney-hurting Pawn Shop background, side-stepping legal loopholes with mustaches, and Bob's least favorite thing he had to draw for Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

If I had a time machine, I'd go right back to the start of this recording session just to experience it again. Joining us is "Time Machine" editor Dave Hughes, one of the last remaining original employees at Adult Swim. When he isn't curating Adult Swim Smalls, producing the instant classic Haha, You Clowns, or running the long-standing Off the Air, Dave is building a legendary resume that includes Beavis and Butt-Head, Celebrity Deathmatch, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast. I bet if he had a time machine, he'd go back and do something like invest in Apple in the 90's. But not me, man. Not me. Dave also gave me a rough cut of "Time Machine", which I then blab to you about. Other topics discussed include the limited - yet impactful - vocabulary of calculators, the forgotten history of MTV's groundbreaking animation, and why Bret Michaels is gonna sue my ass back to the stone ages. Talk about a time machine!

Today on the podcast we're joined by four certified* Aqua Teen legends: Matt Maiellaro, Dana Snyder, Jay Wade Edwards, and John Brestan. Without these guys, Aqua Teen would suck ass - and this podcast episode would be a lot lonelier. In this buffet of an episode, we're talking about the dead tech that Aqua Teen was founded on, adult swim pilots that never got finished, standards and practices being angry about Spacecataz, and why none of us are opening up Al Roker's cookbook. I mean, come on. How good could it be? Anyways, make like Jeff Goldblum and get as close as possible to being a fly on the wall at adult swim.

Touch your base with Ronnie's as he gives you fast and hard updates about the next month of the podcast.

If you're one of them reader-types, here's the gist of it: Time Machine episode postponed to the first Monday of February, a mishmash hangout episode with Dana Snyder & Matt Maiellaro & Jay Edwards & John Brestan will go up in its place. I'm also working on an episode commemorating Aqua Teen's 25 year anniversary which will hopefully be up at some point in January.

Come all ye Aqua Teen faithful, for Shawn Coleman & Dave Willis – the Two Minstrels of Meat – come bearing holy gifts... of KNOWLEDGE!

After spending the last two Christmases deep diving our way through the wonderful world of Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas, we're finally blessed with the album's chief architects to learn all about this modern day classic!
