After missing a week to recover from the Wu-Flu, we’re back up in the pod lounge with comedian Carl Sobel. We rip on the new Ghostbusters films, then get into the craziness that is the Olympics - with the Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec, Snoop Dogg being USA’s mascot, Gojira’s amazing performance during the opening ceremonies, and Simone Biles dominant performance. We debate audio books VS paper books, discuss the dominance of Nickleback, and hear about hanging out with the dude from The Room at the Wealthy Theater. 

In the second segment we dive into the News of The World, including a preposterous ruling about chicken wings.  Carl tells us his story of appearing on Kill Tony, fills us in on competitive sword fighting, tells a great story about being too high at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, and hanging out with comedian TJ Miller of Silicon Valley fame in sketchy Detroit night clubs.  Soak it in.

In this banger of an episode, musician and friend of the pod Mike Nolan comes by to mix us up some awesome cocktails… and we get drunk. And Susan Morgan slips in to steal drinks. We start off pouring one up for actor Shelly Duvall, rip on Nic Cage movies, and rip on the movie The Room. We somehow get down a Troy McClure from The Simpsons rabbit hole, and then briefly review the new Eminem record.

We get the low down on Devarron’s favorite comics and time spent in the NYC stand up scene, and talk about the current swing back from PC comedy. In the second segment, we get a classic News of the World bit from Matt, then talk about the farce or the Presidential debate between Trump and Biden. Joining us in the Pod Lounge is Tony Wright, author of the true crime mystery book Things Aren't Right: The Disappearance of the Yuba County Five, which explores the bizarre and tragic 1978 disappearance of Ted Weiher, Jack Madruga, Bill Sterling, Jackie Huett, and Gary Mathias in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California.

In the first segment, Tony describes his history as a writer and archivist, and how he got interested in the Yuba County Five Mystery. Then, he walks us through an in depth step by step chronology of the case, including the initial trip to the basketball game, the disappearance, the controversial statements of Joseph Schons, and the initial aftermath following the discovery in the forestry trailer. 

In the second segment, we dive into the various theories surrounding the disappearance, including Joseph Schones involvement, the potential catalyst of Gary Mathias’ past, the “town bully” theory, and even….
