Daniel is a 37-year old working-class transgender veteran running a nonpartisan grassroots congressional campaign for California’s 38th Assembly District. He was born and raised in Maryland by a hard-working single mom. Daniel started working at 14, came out as a lesbian at 16, and graduated from high school the year after 9/11. Unable to break the poverty ceiling, Daniel joined the United States Navy at 24 and served four years supporting the troops in the Middle East. After separating from the military, Daniel married the love of his life and came out as transgender. He utilized his G.I. Bill to attend college and became the first generation in his family to earn a degree. It was this combination of his working-class upbringing, war-time military service, his transition from female to male, and the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign that came together to ignite the political fire that drove him to get involved. He began volunteering at the polls, got hired at his local county elections office, and now he’s running for the State Assembly to fight for a better California, for all of us!
