CPAWS Southern Alberta has been working on forestry issues in southern Alberta for a long time. We are concerned that despite the economic, social and environmental importance of the forests of the Southern Eastern Slopes, these objectives are not being met by current forest management practices. 

Katie Morrison, conservation director with the Southern Alberta chapter of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, has more details. 

It has recently become known to us that there are serious plans to log in the Highwood River drainage area. Affected watershed zones include, Fitzsimmons Creek, Baril Creek, Etherinton Creek, Cataract Creek and Highwood River. All of these watersheds are in prime wildlife habitats.
