Dumped coach David Leadbetter has pled for Lydia Ko to take control of her golf game.
Leadbetter believes it was Ko's parents who decided to part ways with him and his academy after a successful three-year partnership.
He told D'Arcy Waldegrave they set unrealistic expectations and have made some questionable decisions, particularly parting ways with caddie Jason Hamilton shortly before the LPGA's Tour Championship.
Leadbetter said he's not sure if that was Ko's decision or her parents, but it seems "nuts" and "naive" to cut your caddie so close to a major tournament.
He said he's told Ko that her next coach has to work with her one-on-one, without the involvement of her parents.
"We've had a pretty good relationship up to this point in time. I really like her parents, it's just sometimes some parents are easier to work with than others, but it's not easy coaching three people at once."
Lydia Ko won 12 LPGA Tour titles, including two majors, an Olympic silver medal and amassed close to seven point $US5 million in prize money under Leadbetter.
