Tim Rodgers interviews Wayne Tustin concerning Wayne’s work over 60+ years including his company, Equipment Reliability Institute.

Wayne Tustin is the president of Equipment Reliability Institute.

He received his BSEE degree from the University of Washington in 1944 and he started at Boeing in 1948 where he was introduced to shock and vibration testing while working on an early version of the B-52 bomber.

He moved on to MB Electronics, which at that time was the world’s largest manufacturer of shakers for vibration testing. Wayne started traveling the world, consulting and training on shock and vibration testing since 1962.

In 1995 he founded the Equipment Reliability Institute where Wayne and his team of consultants offer on-site and remote training for testers, designers, quality and reliability engineers, and their managers.

Wayne has written several books that have become required reading and valuable references for quality professionals.

Fred Schenkelberg, a guest host, interviews Wes Fulton about his work, software, and promotion of Weibull analysis.

[Note: This is a bonus episode recorded at RAMS 2016 in Tucson, AZ.

Fred invited thought leaders to join him for a quick interview, thus please pardon the sounds of the conference in the background.]

Wes Fulton is founder/CEO of Fulton Findings and the creator of the first widely-used Weibull plotting software, currently known as SuperSMITH®.

He also wrote several special programs for statistical research such as MonteCarloSMITH and BiWeibullSMITH software packages. He has 16 years experience as Program Engineer for Garrett AiResearch aerospace systems and over 30 years experience in developing Weibull Engineering tools.

He supervised development and production engineering of aircraft flight control projects and maneuvering fly-by-wire actuation systems.

He co-patented a multi-fuseable shaft (high-performance drive-train device) and is a member of several engineering societies. A lecturer in statistical modeling, he presents Dr. Bob Abernethy's Weibull Workshop including the Fulton Factor he developed for use in set comparison.

He also originated the concept of assurance using equivalent reliability and confidence.

Celine Geiger, a guest host, interviews David Groebel concerning David’s work at ReliaSoft bringing software products to market.

[Note: This is a bonus episode recorded at RAMS 2016 in Tucson, AZ. Celine and David started talking, and agreed to be recorded for the Dare to Know podcast.]

David Groebel serves as the Director of Software Development at ReliaSoft Corporation. Since 1997, he has been integral in the development of ReliaSoft’s software products.

In his previous role as the Director QA & Support, he was instrumental in formalizing the customer support and software quality assurance procedures at ReliaSoft.

He has conducted seminars across different industries including Aerospace, Defense, Automotive, and Medical.

In addition, he has been the project lead for ReliaSoft’s RGA software since 2003. His areas of interest include life data analysis, accelerated life testing, system reliability, reliability growth analysis and software quality assurance.

Mr. Groebel holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona. He is a Senior Member of ASQ and a Certified Reliability Professional (CRP).

Lou Gullo is Reliability Section Head and senior principal systems engineer at Raytheon, but a lot of people know him best as the IEEE Reliability Society Standards Chair and a member of the IEEE Reliability Society Administrative Committee.

He's also currently the secretary/treasurer of the RAMS Management Committee.

Lou has many years of experience as a reliability engineer and manager that includes positions at Texas Instruments, BAE Systems, Honeywell, and Flextronics.

Tim Rodgers interviews Chris concerning her blog, Test To Be Your Best and her thoughts on today’s product testing.

Chris Peterson is an instructor at Technology Training, Inc. and others, with over 20 years of experience as a consultant and leader in climatic testing, including HALT and HASS.

Chris is also a past president of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology, and she is the chair for three different IEST working groups.

She is a current committee member of the MIL-STD-810 editing team. Chris has been an award-winning advocate for user-friendly specifications and teaches people how to do their testing so the results really mean something.

Tim Rodgers interviews Kirk Gray concerning his observations and advice concerning accelerated testing best practices.

Kirk Gray is the principal consultant with Accelerated Reliability Solutions and an instructor on HALT and HASS methods.

He has almost 30 years of experience in reliability testing, engineering, and management positions.

He was a senior reliability test engineer at Dell's desktop PC organization where he developed highly accelerated stress audit procedures for power supplies.

Kirk also co-authored an IEEE paper that describes the opportunities to improve reliability and reduce cost by performing accelerated testing at temperatures higher than what is in the design specifications.

He's a senior member of IEEE and contributes regularly to conferences all over North America.
