Derek Wasser is a Toronto chef and is a Partners and Executive Chef of Toronto-based restaurant and catering company, Pantry. Pantry is a quick service concept that has branched out of the larger full service catering company the Food Dudes, which he previously worked for as a chef for 5 years. Pantry currently has 3 restaurant locations: one in Leslieville, a flagship location in Rosedale, and a location on the Commerce Court Path. They have plans to expand later this year with another Path location in the downtown core.

COVID-19 forced The Food Dudes and Pantry to close all operations. Management decided to put their resources towards supporting the healthcare system through daily meals instead. They have large 10,000 square foot commissary kitchens that they felt could create safe socially distanced work spaces and developed a menu. Through their support system and loyal clients, they were able to start the program, and are currently serving over 500 meals a week to health care workers and delivering to their clients through their own delivery platforms.
