Its september 12th 1952, Flatwoods West Virginia, Small town
A group of friends including freddy and edward may are playing in the part at the local grade school when they are witnesses to a large ball of fire that streaks across the sky and seems to descend gracefully on the other side of a ridge half a mile away.
After little deliberation decide to investigate on the chance that it was a meteor and could possibly contain gold.
The streets to get to the landing site passed by the May family house and grabbed Mrs May and a cousin to come along.

The hill was at the end of a long road on the property of the fisher farm (probably trespassed had to climb a fence )

It was dusk when they started down the long road, the object was glowing orange and could be seen from a distance so they knew they were headed in the right direction. By the time they reached the foot of the hill it was already dark.
When they got to the top of the hill they were met with a glowing object the size of a house in the shape of an egg or saucer (not the same shape?). The whole thing was surrounded by a mist.
As They turned to look at what they had just heard, one of the boys aimed into the dark and for a breif moment they got a glimpse at what was behind them

a 10-12 foot tall metallic creature with glowing eyes.
The creature was black, green and red and everyone who witnessed it described it as being mechanical. It did not have discernible legs. It looks alot like a sex toy..
The creature has a head that is shaped like a spade (card) with a red face and eyes that are illuminated. Some of the group described the creature as having claws while others made no mention.

No one can really clearly describes the bottom half of the creature but from everyones account i get the vague idea that it appears to be metallic drape like flowing cloth or a solid metal stump.
What they did agree on was in that breif moment in time while the creature seemed to be going side to side searching for them, when it locked its gaze on them it focused light out of its eyes like beams, Made a hissing sound like frying bacon and begun gliding toward the group.
This caused the kid holding the flash light to trip over another and drop the flash light as they all ran off.
In a panic he dropped the flashlight as he tripped over someone behind them and the whole group ran

A farmer who lived not far from the farm said that night he saw a bright orange light on the hill he watched as it slowly got more red as it dimmed and winked out of existence.
The same night in the same area a family was headed home from visiting, they were driving down the road when their car stalled, The driver tried to restart it. As he he started to smell the odor of sulfur. Getting out of the car to check the engine he notices a glowing object in the forest by the road. As he walks to ward it (and why wouldn’t you) the smell gets so bad he gets sick, as he turns back his wife screams. He turns to see that the monster is chasing him
He too describes a green, black and red creature with no legs, its bottom half was one piece that was hovering

ITS A BARN OWL
female barn owls have a redish brown face and are much larger than the males and have a defensive stance where they bring their head down betwen their feet and raise their back end over their head which gives them an spade like shape and the flash light hitting the eyes of the owl would have made them look like they lit up.
