Data Action Golf with Dr. Aaron R. Stewart

Joaquin Niemann was an accomplished amateur player, is one of only 3 to make it on to the PGA Tour going via the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. And now is a winner on the PGA Tour. Let's review the data on how he got it done, and discuss how our benchmark number can help us all improve our games.

For the first time in 28 years, the Player of the Year award based on the PGA Tour points system and the Player of the Year award based on the Tour player's opinion do not match up. Rory McIlroy was chosen as Player of the Year over Brooks Koepka by their fellow competitors. What happened? Do majors not matter to the Tour Players most anymore, or was there something else going on? Let's tee it up.

Matt Kuchar finds himself at the end of another Twitter storm. He followed the new rules of golf, but some were upset (like Geoff Shackelford among others) that he was apparently not keeping within the spirit of the game of golf. The spirit of the game?!? Mercy... Let's Tee It Up!

Learning to play golf with freedom should be the goal of all golfers, but actually learning how to play that way isn't as simple as it sounds. Fear tends to creep in, worry about not looking bad in front of those we are playing with, or just not performing up to our capacity takes away our freedom. Fred Shoemaker shares his insight in how freedom is possible in golf in this insightful discussion. Let's tee it up!

Many of us expect too much of ourselves on the golf course. We have it in our heads that the PGA Tour pros never miss a shot, or we have lofty expectations for our own games and aren't realistic. By understanding and knowing performance benchmarks we can no only relax and see our game in a correct light, but we can make sure we are working on the part of our game that is the weakest. Tour players do the exact same thing. What are your performance bench marks? Do you have a "tour quality game" in some aspects of your game. Let's tee it up!

Fred Shoemaker is a renown golf instructor. He founded a Top 25 rated golf school and has coached the brightest minds in golf. He has authored two amazing book on golf and was kind enough to share his insight with us in a lengthy discussion a few weeks a go. In this episode I have pulled out a very important part of the originally 45 minute discussion, and although this might be the shortest portion of the discussion, I believe it to be the most important and impactful when it comes to long-term golf learning. And I mean the kinds that sticks forever. The concepts Fred touches on here are not easily understood at first, I know it took me a while to process, but once understood and unlocked, golf learning will never be the same, and your ability to get as good as your natural ability will allow will be possible. Let's tee it up!

Rory McIlroy had a very consistent year, and he finished the year up with a $15 million payday at the FedEx Cup. Let's look at Rory's numbers compared to his 2019 averages and see what we can learn. Our benchmarks produced from the 2018 season held up well this year, and there will be minimal changes for the 2019-2020 season. Which is great new for those of us that like to use data, real data, to work on the weakest part of our games to get truly better. Let's tee it up!

Many of us were raised to believe that we had to learn skill and beat into our brains, body, muscle memory in order to become good golfers. Well, it turns out that isn't the case. Fred Shoemaker shares with us the proper mindset me must have to learn golf in a more meaningful and exciting way. This episode goes deep, it is one of my favorites and the very essence of the Extraordinary Golf School and Fred Shoemaker's unique and brilliant coaching methods. Let's tee it up.

We have been fed misinformation for years on how to read greens, the best putting strokes, best grips, stance, balance, everything. But are you a better putter today than you were last year, or 5 years ago. The answer to that is probably no, not if you looked at the data. So why can't we get better? One simple sentence from Fred Shoemaker changed the way I putt today, and in less than a minute Fred Shoemaker took me from the worst putting of my life to the best ever. You can too, here is how. Let's tee it up!

What a crazy weekend of golf. For most of the weekend it appeared up to 6 players outside of the top 30 would make it to Atlanta, it didn't happen. Patrick Cantlay made sure that Justin Thomas earned the victory, they both played great and it felt like match play most of the day. The data proves Justin had a good week, let's tee it up and take a look!
