Meet Daughter of Change, Alison Serour, meditation expert and instructor at the Kabbalah Center.
Alison was born in New York City and began singing and acting in the Big Apple at five years old. After an adventurous childhood on stage, she earned a degree in Musical Theatre and Vocal Performance from the University of Miami.
She later was inspired to study Kabbalah after witnessing the drastic and miraculous transformation Kabbalah made in her family’s life. In 2000, Alison became a full-time volunteer at The Kabbalah Centre, sharing wisdom with others. Eight years later, she began teaching. She feels honored to be able to help students take responsibility for their lives, overcome challenges, and reveal more Light so they may live the lives they desire.
In a time when it seems like the only news is bad, it’s important to get in touch with something bigger than ourselves, our egos, and our fears. Regardless of how you get there, realizing that there is something bigger at play than human folly is both comforting and important.

Today you will meet Shawnise Chantell, author, mother, and daughter of change.
A lifetime lover of adventure and experience, Shawnise loved every moment of life. However, after giving birth to her third child, Shawnise’s life was turned upside down when she came face to face with death and experienced the beauty that lays on the other side.
During her recovery, Shawnise experienced feelings of grief, anxiety, and depression. At her father’s recommendation, she sought mental health assistance to help her process the trauma. The therapy was life-altering and partly what the author credits with her current journey towards recovery.
Shawnise's decision to seek help has inspired her to turn her trials into triumphs. She hopes that by sharing her story, God Within the Lily, with others she can help others turn their life around as well.
When I met Shawnise, I was immediately struck by her pure heart and the energy she radiates. She is beautiful inside and out. I’m excited to have this opportunity to introduce her to the Daughters of Change Community so she can share her story.
Join us and hear about her incredible journey and where it has taken her both here and beyond.

Meet Daughter of Change, Amanda Young, a Mental Health Advocate, Author and Podcast Host whose personal mission is to help eliminate the stigma of brain illnesses by educating people about what depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress and bipolar actually are. She starts important conversations on her social media platforms and podcast by encouraging others to speak up and seek help. Amanda is a firm believer that her brain health conditions and her unique voice are her superpowers. The ability to feel in extremes gives her empathy not everyone has – allowing her to continue helping others find their voice.
At the end of 2020, Amanda made one of the hardest decisions to date and walked away from a career she’d spent her entire life working to achieve. She was experiencing unimaginable levels of burnout, and compassion fatigue and was barely surviving… it broke her heart, but she knew that she had to prioritize herself and her mental health if she wanted to be a better human, friend, wife, daughter, or sister… let alone run a developing brand she’d created, full-time. Through this process, she was able to find that her identity WASN’T just in being an animal trainer; She had so much to offer the world and it was time she focused on herself to begin sharing that voice.

Girl Scouts of Maine is dedicated to preparing girls for a lifetime of leadership—in their own life and in the world. As women, we face a number of unique challenges, but we also have an unparalleled reach to make positive impacts. Girl Scouts is deeply committed to filing a pipeline of women leaders to make those impacts.
Today’s guest, Kathleen Dean, is a shining example of a burgeoning woman leader. A Future Leaders Scholarship recipient, Kathleen is committed to community service, and in her words “I am ready to take on this imperfect world and use my strengths and leadership abilities to pave the way for the next generation of girls and help them grow into women who will do the same for generations to come”. I think that says it all in a nutshell.
