  • Afritunes Week 61. Bass chordings and solo by @dave-estates and @utyalban
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/qyxftjyf
Hello good people of the Afritunes community, greetings from my end.
This week, I thought of bringing something different here. But before, here's a briefing I've got for you, yes you reading me right now.
    https://images.hive.blog/DQmQuPvg1bNdf2g1H3ox6M9vsZKBJVo81rLSWDqb18fRcqt/Picsart_23-05-10_14-24-23-990.jpg
    ----
Few years ago, I met this guy in the church. He was invited to come play the bass. In my ears, I heard some simple but first class grooves from the bass but I didn't know whose fingers those grooves came from. I decided to wait till the end of the program, then I walked up to the stage and saw this guy who did all that stuff on the bass. I shaked him and we exchanged contacts.
I initiated a conversation on reaching home with him and the nigga was too cool to flow with. I told him I would love to learn how to play the bass, and fortunately, this guy agreed to show me the rudiments of playing the bass.
Not long after, we became close like we've known each other for decades. Seeing us was no more a boss and student but two good friends. This was how I became friends with @utyalban and till date, this guy has been a great bass teacher and a good friend.
He came to my place and we created something. I did the bass chordings while he did the solo as oga where him be.
The harmony from this play got me really thrilled and twas a nice time with @utyalban and I believe this collaboration will keep happening in the future.
    Thanks for having me.

  • Hive Music Festival - Week N°29 - Round 2. Bass Cover of Tobechukwu. [ENG-ESP]
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/eezivrpq
Hello respected musicians of the Music Zone community. It's always an honor being here cos there are so many experienced musicians in here which I respect their style of music so well. They have a way of delivering their music mastery to the audience and it is that no matter how many times I listen, getting tired in a jiffy won't be a thing.
In Africa, Nigeria precisely, there's a style of music popularly known as highlife music. This music is specifically about incorporating the melodies from musical instruments with native songs. Highlife music is played in occasions like Traditional marriages, funerals and in church services. Though other occasions do play this kind of music but the above mentioned first two places are where it can frequently be heard.
This highlife music is what inspired me to learn how to play the bass. It teaches instrumentalists core discipline while on stage. There are times a bass player will be on a particular bassline for a couple of minutes without doing any riffs and runs. This is to teach the bass player how to maintain his role during a gig. Though we young musicians find this style of play to be boring, the experienced musicians will always tell us to stick to our role.
Imagine a bass player leaving his role as a bass player during a groove to do what the guitarists should do. This will leave a vacuum in that gig at that time of switching. It's not like it is bad to be free and express oneself during a gig, but there are times riffs and runs kind of become noise. This is when it is too much. All of these are the advice I got from an experienced musician. So I've been trying my best to stick to my role when I should and switch when it is necessary.
Since this is an international community, I decided to share with us one of the native songs from a tribe called Igbo in Nigeria. The song is titled Tobechukwu meaning Praise God. This song was sung by Nathaniel Bassey and Mercy Chinwo. Both are Nigerian gospel artists who have taken their music to international level.
As a bass player, the best feel from the bass comes when you have your headphones 🎧🎧 on. So please I implore you to have it on and have fun.
    Thank you..
    Gracias..

  • Hive Open Mic Week 160. Bass Cover of Alone pt. II [ENG-ESP]
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/dljqosip
Hello friends, ever wondered why tasking and tedious it has most times been to pull up a particular endeavor all alone? Like, sometimes it becomes so brain-wrecking and the feeling of giving up seems to be the only available option. But far be the case when you've got associates and acquaintances to help pull up, not to talk of having a bunch of friends, pulling through happens with less hassles.
    https://images.hive.blog/DQmRKdmmN6CsKsb4f14kWMUxmiF3bKepL4rPYwAxX9aAEuT/Picsart_23-05-05_17-42-15-005.jpg
Does this mean that alone, greatness can't be achieved? No,..
Does this also mean one can't make it alone? No...
The achievement curves for each person seem to be different somehow but having a group of persons to work with keeps the stress, both physical and psychological, in check .
Thank you @guitarmcy for reminding us that there's a thing called fraternity, Because no matter how strong we might feel or think we are, at some point, we'll need a shoulder to cry one, we'll need a listening ear, we'll need a fellow with discerning spirit, we'll always wanna fraternize with one or two persons as we scale up.
Incorporating all of these on my bass, I did a cover of a song titled Alone pt. 2 by Alan Walker. The part of the song that grits my gears is the *"I'm not gonna make it alone"* part. It's damn true. I've tried pushing a lot of stuff alone, but making it alone feels like it'll drain me all down. But you know what to do? Get your headphones and listen to the song to get a better feel. Below, I've also attached the lyrics for clarity and better comprehension. Thank you for your time..
    Lyrics
    We were young
    Posters on the wall
    Praying we're the ones
    That the teacher wouldn't call
We would stare at each other
'Cause we were always in trouble
    And all the cool kids
    Did their own thing
    I was on the outside
    Always looking in
    Yeah, I was there but I wasn't
They never really cared if I wasn't
    We all need that someone
Who gets you like no one else
Right when you need it the most
We all need a soul to rely on
    A shoulder to cry on
A friend through the highs and the lows
I'm not gonna make it a-la
La la la la la la
La la la la la –lone
I'm not gonna make it a-la
La la la la la la
La la la la la –lone
    Then I saw your face
    Your forgiving eyes
    Looking back at me
    From the other side
    Like you understood me
And I'm never letting you go, oh
    We all need that someone

No,..
No...

  • Afritunes Week 60. Bass Cover of Breakfast
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/iphnbwjd
It's been a great year so far and it makes more sense that we are already in the second quarter of the year. That's enough reason to be grateful.
    https://images.hive.blog/DQmZwo1yNbVYXTYZsLNxc229Hg4Et8c82hxa1Cb3Xm36w2a/Picsart_23-05-04_11-01-11-353.jpg
The 60th week of the Afritunes music presentation is already here and all I can see here is growth that knows no bound.
I feel I express myself better with the bass when it has to do with music. Singing would have been my most preferred actually, but I have a knack for playing the bass and it grinds my gears pretty well. So as it supposed to be, I present to y'all a bass cover of a song titled "Breakfast" by Ugoccie ft. Phyno.
But wait a sec, how did we get to this point where we now refer to heartbreak as breakfast because, what is going on...? Why not lunch, okay, why not brunch or even dinner... Why the innocent breakfast 😂😂😂... But e be like na Burna Boy first start this thing when he in one of his songs said "las las everybody ko chop breakfast".
That's the beauty of music though, healing the hurting part of life.
Ugoccie took to music to explain how no one can escape breakfast (heartbreak) in the journey of life. I don't know if it's true actually. But I love the song and I decided to do a bass cover of it.
The best feel of this audiovisual will be with the use of headphones 🎧🎧🎧...so please make use of it.
Below are the lyrics of the song should you want to sing along.
    Thanks for having me.
    You say pack and go
    Say me I'm not enough
Say you no really send me
You only want to shag me
    Tomorrow you find me come

  • Hive Music Festival - Week N°28 - Round 1. Bass Cover of Lagos City. [ENG-ESP].
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/sizasfnl
    ENGLISH
Hello friends and neighbors of the music zone community. My heart is thrilled with joy to be here today..
Some years ago when I was a toddler, when I see people on stage with the bass hung on their shoulder, I really used to admire it and always wish it was me. My aspirations to play the bass was on a level really high. Glad I didn't let that dream die or dim.
Some years later, I enrolled as a student to learn how to play the bass. The highs and lows on the way was just running me down but I held one thing to heart which was that every thing I needed to pull through this endeavor was behind those huddles so I couldn't give up. I pressed on and on untill I got here. This is me trying to introduce myself as a first timer in this community and a bass player. My name is David Thompson in full and I am happy to be in this week's hive music festival.
I've gone through the rules of turning in entries and I am glad they aren't cumbersome or insurmountable.
As it is my first time, and I brought you a bass cover of a song titled Lagos city sung by a Nigerian artist known by his stage name as Bella Shmurda. This guy began his music debut few years ago and he has made so much waves with ravishing melodies. A lot of persons love his style of music and I do too. So I did a bass cover of one his songs and I hope it'll tingle your music ear a lil bit. But for clarity of the bass, I recommend you please make use of headphones 🎧🎧🎧. I promise you'll have a better feel of the bass more. Below is the link to the [lyrics](https://genius.com/Bella-shmurda-lagos-city-lyrics) of the song should you want to learn or sing along.
    Thanks for having me.

  • Afri Tunes week 59. Bass Cover of Na Money sung by Davido
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/qwbefvxp
Hello friends and neighbours. Glad to be with you this week.
Many people have different philosophy about money. The Holy book say *"the love money is the root of all evil"*, and still added that *"money answereth all things*".
Some people believe that money brings happiness while some say money doesn't bring happiness. The different views about money from different perspective is endless though.
As for me, I just need the money then I will test the amount of happiness it can bring and the amount it can't bring, and i will also coin my own philosophy. Make the money just dey make man for just use am level up😁😁😁.
Davido, in his recent album which he titled "Timeless" has something to say about money. Though he was actually referring to the way women love money, which is not a bad thing, after all, who no like better thing.
He featured Cavemen and Angelic Kidjo in the song and infact, those guys really did the most of the song. The Timeless album has so many songs I will do bass cover of in the nearest future but for now, *"Na money"* bass cover I don bring to tingle your ears small.
Just do well to have your headphones on to have a better feel of the bass.

  • Hive Open Mic Week 159. Bass Cover of Shame on You
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/txsmyvio
    Hello friends and neighbors...
My warmest gratitude goes to @jesus-son for this week's theme. This theme stands out unique. Big Shout out to you my broh..
There's this adage that a friend who is there for you when in need is the friend indeed. Could a friend indeed really be a perfect definition of a good friend? (Just thinking out loud).
When the theme for the week dropped, I sure knee exceptional entries were going to flow in. And I really appreciate everyone for their top notch entries.
Was at a colleague's place when I heard a song play from his music box. The song is titles "Shame on you" and it is sung by Morris D'voice. This song has been in existence for over 8 years but I just heard it for the first time two days ago. This Ghanaian artist really did noble for releasing this song. I tried to get some handful information about him but couldn't really get enough. But I will still research more and check out if he has some other songs. But if you know of other songs released by him, please do recommend.
The song actually sounds very funny but there are funny truth embedded in it too. If I say I'm a friend to someone, I must be a good one. In the words of the great Abraham Lincoln, he said "*Whatever you are, be a good one*". So if you wanna be a friend to someone, be a good one, also wanna be an enemy, I think being a good one will be ideal. But it is more blessed to be a good friend.
As a bass player, I am good at expressing my feelings about a particular song with my bass. So I did something on this song, a cover actually. So please do make use of headphones or earpiece and believe me, you would have a better feel of the bass than listening to it without headphones on.

Thanks so much for having me. You are special

  • Hive Open Mic Week 155 || Bass Cover of Pray by @dave-estates
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/saplnucx
Hello friends and neighbors of the hive open mic community, I love to see the significant growth of the community within its months of existence. It won't be abstract to say that growth is simply the watchword of this community, and as such, it's her DNA.
Our spotlight artist for the week gave us a theme that sparks so much concern. The theme is a very lovely one for me because it revolves around what we exhibit as a community of significant musical beings. To this note, I want to shoot a big shout-out to our amiable spotlight artist @stickupboys, this theme is such a perfect fit for the community.
I choose a song I listened to recently titled *"Pray"* by a skilled Nigerian artist, popularly known by her stage name as Teni. She featured Phyno, her colleague in the music industry. I was inspired by the song because to most of us, we have artificially made Prayer part of our DNA and so we pray to God or whatever being we believe in to always guide and bless us in our daily endeavors.
I therefore decided to do a bass cover of *"Pray"* and I would please request that you make use of the headset so as to have a smooth feel of the bassline I employed to this song. Thank you

Gracias
Below are the lyrics of the song .

  • Afri-tunes Week 48 || Bass Cover of Jennifer
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=dave-estates/woogtqhk
Hello great minds of Afri-Tunes community, good to be back again this week. Hope your week has been going smooth.
In preparation for my project defense which is scheduled for next week Friday, I have been busy tidying up my thesis, because of that, I almost missed this week's talent unleash. But here I am, I didn't miss it😁😁😁.
I chosed to groove to a song by Guchi titled "Jennifer". This song is about a gurl who realized that her lover had chosen another gurl named Jennifer over her. So she got heart broken and swum herself in the pool of tears.
Below are the lyrics of the song should you want to sing along
    You say you got me
But I know say you dey lie
With that looks in your eyes
    Stop acting funny
Shey you no dey pick my call
I don call you ten times
    Yeah I love you
Even when I know say you dey lie no oh oh
    Yeah I miss you
Even when I know say you dey run no oh oh
    Shey na because of Jennifer
Na she dey do the dirty dance o, Jennifer
Oh I am looking for that girl called Jennifer
Na she dey spoil your mind like a Lucifer
    Eh hey eh Jennifer
Say I am looking for that girl called Jennifer
Na she dey do the dirty dance o, Jennifer
Oh I am looking for that girl called Jennifer
    Forget that Jennifer
    She be Casanova
She dey put sand sand for my garri o
    Come rain come sun
    I go love you better
    But Jennifer dey lie
She just wants your money eh
    Na she be karashika
and she go give you fever
If you look into her eyes
You go notice she’s a wizard
    As you be fine Ronaldo
    You dey cause wahala
    Yeah another girl want you
    Yeah another girl want you
    Stop lying

Your lie go fit killy somebody
The way you do I no fit shout o
Your lie go fit killy somebody
    Oh my God o

    Stop lying
You know I love you my darling
The way you do I no fit shout o
Girl I go fit killy somebody
    Oh my God o
    Yeah I love you
Even when I know say you dey lie no oh oh
    Yeah I miss you
Even when I know say you dey run no oh oh
    Shey na because of Jennifer
Na she dey do the dirty dance o, Jennifer
Oh I am looking for that girl called Jennifer
Na she dey spoil your mind like a Lucifer
    Eh hey eh Jennifer

Say I am looking for that girl called Jennifer
Na she dey do the dirty dance o, Jennifer
