Dave 'Softy' Mahler and Dick Fain

Alas, Dick Fain has returned from a nice long vacation as we get things back to normal on the radio show. This is of course Dick's first chance to react to the Russell Wilson contract signed earlier this week. There seems to be a lot of backlash out there, less from the contract itself and more from the video he released from his bedroom. Does it make him look bad, and does it lower your opinion of him? Some people seem to think so. Yes, we paid our quarterback a lot of money, but we paid a quality QB, not some random low-level guy. The Hawks now just need to focus on drafting and developing young players around him, which, fortunately, they are pretty good at doing. Tiger obviously won his first Major in years last weekend, and Dick was ecstatic to share the moment with his kids. We are so fractured in this country, even as sports fans, rooting for our local teams and such, that there aren't many athletes that can unite us all like Tiger can.

Predict the Pick continues. Today's pick, Hakeem Butler, wide receiver out of Iowa State who tore up the Cougars just a few months ago. Reports have come out today that the new NHL arena will cost significantly more than expected. To talk about the latest news, Tod Leiweke joins the show. First on the show though, after a couple weeks of Spring Football, Husky head coach Chris Petersen talks about what he's seeing from his team; what's working, and where there needs to be improvement. Russ spoke at a press conference today with Pete Carroll and John Schneider about the new deal. Who would have expected that this is where we'd be when he was drafted in 2012. Now it's time to focus on the rest of the team. This is the most confidence we've had in the O-line since probably 2013, but we need to make absolutely sure we're sold there. It's time to look at the wide receiver position. Let's make sure we get him what he needs to get us to the Super Bowl again.

Predict the Pick rolls on, with contestant Tammy today picking Boston College guard Chris Lindstrom. Not the most expected pick, but who knows? It could happen. A spot they're likely looking at a little more closely is wide receiver. Terry and Softy talk about who could be on the board for the Hawks at that position. It's Wednesday, and it's 4:20, which means it's time to talk to Petros Papadakis. Petros is not a fan of Russell Wilson's bedroom video, but he does want you to know that Greek Easter is not the same as Western Easter. It's the moment we've all been waiting for! The NFL 2019 schedule has been released. The Hawks open the season at home against the Bengals. They'll play four 10am games, and will have a series of prime time games in a row late in the season, and get a late bye in Week 11. Overall, it's a pretty favorable schedule for the Hawks, with the only real drawback being the four early games. Softy and Terry go through the schedule game by game and make their predictions for the season. The consensus is that they'll be around 11-5 this year. After the press conference this afternoon, Russell Wilson sat down with Ian Furness for a one-on-one. We roll that back in case you missed it. Softy and Terry discuss UCF's qualification for the College Football Playoff. It turns out that they don't disagree as much as first thought. Make the four-team playoff an eight-team playoff and there might be room for a team like Central Florida.

Hugh Millen is in once again as Dick is still on vacation. After all the hype, the panic, the flurry of opinions on both sides, the debate is over and the question has been answered. Russell Wilson late last night announced (somewhat awkwardly) on Twitter that he has reached a deal with the Seahawks. It is, of course, the biggest deal in NFL history, demonstrating that this is in fact his franchise now. After all of the rumors, all of the things supposedly argued for, the most logical contract is what we got. This deal could have been done months ago, but it looks liek teh Seahawks won. What does longtime Seahawk coach Mike Holmgren think of all this? He weighs in with his thoughts. Softy says he feels some level of pride knowing that one of our guys is the highest paid guy in the league, knowing full well it is all about timing. Does anyone else feel that way?

Today is the deadline for Russell Wilson to get a deal done with the Seahawks, at least that's the date set by Russell Wilson's camp. Peter King is reporting that Wilson and his agent have said that if there's no deal by midnight tonight, that negotiations will stop for good. Peter King joins the show to further elaborate on the story that's created waves in Seattle sports media today. Obviously, these are just reports and Russell Wilson hasn't spoken publicly, but if the reports are true, are you put off by his ultimatum? It certainly doesn't seem like he's negotiating on behalf of the whole team, and seems out of character for him, at least based on his public persona.
