David Whelan - The John Lennon Assassination

December the 8th, 1980. New York. West 72nd. The building which is one of the oldest in New York City, so old there were not even roads around it at first, was the location for one of the most notorious killings of the 20th Century.

Waiting outside the Dakota is Mark Chapman, a fan from Hawaii who will, at about 11:23pm, claim his place in history by firing his hollow point bullets from his .38 into John Lennon.

Instantly the media branded him a lone nut. The world mourned while Chapman was arrested and charged in an investigation which was anything but thorough.

Since then questions have started to arise about the exact sequence of events, the handling of evidence and the lack of either a proper forensic investigation or indeed, almost any other kind. It was a slam dunk for NYPD. Or so it seemed.

David Whelan is a documentary filmmaker and writer who has been researching the Lennon assassination, and has evidence and statements from those there on the night which gives a strong possibility Chapman didn't kill Lennon. At least, not alone.
