The Washington Huskies may have been wearing 'Husky Royalty' jerseys for the first time Saturday night, but their performance against the Arizona State Sun Devils was nothing more than a royal pain in the butt for the home team.

The Sun Devils were 27.5-point underdogs, yet held Washington to no offensive touchdowns and 13 yards rushing as the visitors.

On top of that, the Washington Huskies shot themselves in the foot with four turnovers before the defense was able to find a massive takeaway of their own that turned out to be the difference in their 15-7 win over ASU Saturday night at Husky Stadium.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - went through it...the not so good, bad, and downright ugliness of it all, but at the end of the day they could only come up with one incontrovertible fact: the Huskies still figured out a way to win the game.

Don't know how and don't know why - but the guys tried to break down the key points in the game to help offer some context to explain the unexplainable. Like how did ASU turn Washington's offense so completely pedestrian? And how did ASU's M.A.S.H. unit of an offensive line hold up against Washington's front seven? And why hadn't other teams tried what ASU found to be so successful?

There were a few guys out for the Huskies as well in receivers Jalen McMillan, Germie Bernard, and DL Tuli Letuligasenoa. During the game RG Geirean Hatchett left the action and later on safety Kamren Fabiculanan got banged up with a leg injury and he was unable to return.

The guys then talked about the team coming back out after halftime and promptly turning the ball over again, once more putting their defense on the spot. But Washington's defense came up with the goods time and time again, culminating in Mishael Powell's 89-yard pick-six to give Washington their first lead of the game with just over 8 minutes to play.

Kim, Chris, and Scott also talked about how clutch placekicker Grady Gross was, as well as some of the interesting decisions by ASU Head Coach Kenny Dillingham that saw the Sun Devils go for it on fourth down six times (they only converted twice), and how eventually the defense was able to put the final nails in the coffin and secure their seventh win of the 2023 season and 14th in a row overall.

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds spoke this week with SunDevilSource's Chris Karpman to get a feel for what Washington will see Saturday night when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils at Husky Stadium.

It's the end of an era, as well as an end of the series between Arizona State and Washington, and it's a series the Huskies aren't going to be sad to see the back of. Overall, the Sun Devils lead UW 21-17, including 13 of the last 15 games.

So what cities is Chris now curious about going to, as Arizona State is set to join the Big-12 Conference with Arizona, Utah, and Colorado? And what cities will he miss when it comes to the Pac-12: Eugene, Corvallis, or Pullman?

And with all the recent development at Arizona State, specifically around the football program and the turmoil with the on-field product, a coaching change and NCAA investigation, how does ASU AD Ray Anderson still have a job? And who is to blame?

Next, Karpman goes in-depth on the hire of new head coach Kenny Dillingham and what made him the right man at the right time, especially given the current ASU administration, led by President Michael Crow.

On to the game, Karpman talks about how different this year's ASU team is compared to last year's with so many new names that came to Tempe via the transfer portal. He talked about the strengths of the team, as well as where they are struggling, starting with their offensive line. Their OL has been decimated with injuries.

Defensively, ASU now has a new DC in former Washington State DC Brian Ward. Washington fans should remember Ward from last year; the Huskies scored 51 points on the Cougars in the 2022 Apple Cup.

How much will revenge play into this game, considering UW lost to the Sun Devils last year? Or will it factor at all? Karpman offers up his impressions of what he's seen so far from Washington and how he thinks ASU stacks up with this year's version of the Huskies. And can they cover a pretty sizable line (UW -27.5)?

Going forward, what's the outlook for the Sun Devils for the rest of the season and heading to the Big-12 in 2024? Karpman gives his take on how fans have been handling things so far with a move to a new conference on the horizon, including how successful they've been implementing NIL collectives to keep up with the Joneses.
