Washington guard Marcus Tsohonis and head coach Mike Hopkins spoke to the media Monday night after a Tsohonis runner with 2.4 seconds left lifted the Huskies to a 65-63 win at Washington State, breaking a five-game conference losing streak. Quade Green missed the game with an undisclosed illness, but Tsohonis scored a game-high 29 and Erik Stevenson added 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists to help fill the void left by Green's absence.
Washington guard Marcus Tsohonis and head coach Mike Hopkins spoke to the media Saturday night after the Huskies lost their fifth-straight Pac-12 game, this time to No. 24 UCLA, 64-61, as a Quade Green three from the right elbow hit the rim but wouldn't go in. Green had 14 for the Hoop Dawgs, while Marcus Tsohonis led UW in scoring coming off the bench with 22.
While it hasn't been super busy, there has been some buzz over the past couple of weeks with Washington head coach Jimmy Lake filling out his staff, two football transfers that will come in this spring, basketball and recruiting all taking center stage during that time. With all that in mind, the guys from Dawgman thought it was a good chance to catch people up on things and explain why some things have been happening.
First off was the recent announcement that former Texas A&M defensive end/outside linebacker Jeremiah Martin has made the decision to transfer to Washington.
The Huskies were in the mix for the 6'5", 262-pounder when he was a four-star prospect coming out of Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California. However, he made the decision to sign with the Aggies and after three non-descript seasons in College Station, he decided a change of scenery was in order to get his football career back on track.
One of the things that Kim Grinolds and Scott Eklund delve into during the podcast is why some kids aren't successful at one schools, but can blow up at another. A lot of it is fit and comfort-level and they go into why that may be the case with Martin.
Also on tap was the recent release of the football coaching staff's salaries and then they got into some talk about the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes. How big will they be and what position groups are ones to watch over the next 18 to 24 months.
Lastly, Eklund makes a fool of himself trying to name the starting five for the Husky basketball team and discussing some upcoming changes that could be on the way.
Washington guard Quade Green and head coach Mike Hopkins spoke to the media Thursday after the Huskies lost their fourth-straight Pac-12 game, this time to USC, 69-54. Quade Green led the Hoop Dawgs with 16 points, while Jamal Bey added 10.

Quade Green and Mike Hopkins spoke to the media after Washington's 86-74 loss to Oregon Saturday in Eugene.
Marcus Tsohonis and Mike Hopkins spoke with the media Thursday night after Oregon State defeated UW 91-71 in Corvallis.
Washington Head Coach Mike Hopkins spoke to the media Tuesday ahead of UW's game at Oregon State Thursday night.
One of the biggest moves of the Washington offseason was announced on Monday and the reaction was mixed among Husky Nation. Some were a little less than thrilled, while others took a more pragmatic approach.
The most important question is to figure out why Jimmy Lake promoted within while figuring out how to replace Pete Kwiatkowski on the staff.
Lake noted in his Monday press conference that after an exhaustive process where he interviewed several candidates from the professional and college ranks, it became evident that Bob Gregory was the right man to fill the open defensive coordinator spot. That move allowed Lake to fill the outside linebacker spot with Ikaika Malloe who and promote defensive analyst Rip Rowan into Malloe's old spot as the defensive line coach. Keith Bhonapha was then given the special teams coordinator title to go along with the running backs and thus, at least currently, Washington's 2021 coaching staff is complete.
The guys from Dawgman delve into the coaching announcements, what they say about the process and what they believe it means for the roles on the coaching staff moving forward. Does this mean that Lake will be more involved in the defense or will Gregory be the game-planner and play-caller on that side of the ball? How much of an impact will Rowan have on recruiting moving forward?
