On Palm Sunday, before Jesus was crucified on Friday and the resurrection of His body would occur on Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem to begin what we call Passion Week. As a servant leader, He rode into the city on a donkey. The people spread their cloaks, which were long outer garments, and cut branches from the trees covering the road in honor of Him.
The crowds were shouting the words from the Bible text today: "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS THE ONE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:9)
