  • Huck & Braaap Cycling

This week Clint and I sat down with Craig Lawson and Brad Cobb. Craig is a Coach with Huck and Braaap Cycling. Brad Cobb is a sponsor and Founder of Motor Mile Racing which are Mountain bike racers from the "Dirty South dippin', divin' and dodgin' all around the world."

The 2017 inaugural season of Team HBC consisted of six youth racers. By 2018 the team doubled in size and produced two individual Tennessee NICA State Champions. 2019 season, Team HBC had grown the love of the sport for 30 youth athletes competing all over the state. That season ended on a high note for Team HBC when they were named the number one middle school NICA team in the state and four of their racers were named individual Tennessee NICA State Champions (6th grade girls, 7th grade girls, 7th grade boys and 9th grade boys).

The year 2020 presented the dedicated volunteer coaching staff of Team HBC with unique challenges. Like many organizations, Tennessee NICA suspended the entire 2020 season, no race opportunities. By the fall of 2020, after growing the team to 57 riders and in response to the uncertainty about the future of NICA in the state, Team HBC re-tooled its identity and focus. They launched Huck & Braaap Cycling and joined USA Cycling’s rapidly growing youth ranks. Practicing twice a week, the team racked up more than 10,000 miles on the trails.

As a competitive team, racing is at the center of the program, but success is not defined solely by winning. With the help of their generous donors and through hard work and dedication, HBC athletes will grow within the sport of mountain biking, as well as grow the sport within the greater Chattanooga Area.

  • Velo Bike Tours

This week Clint and I chatted with Shannon Burke. Shannon is the founder and director of Velo View Bike Tours and attributes his love for cycling to his wife, Celeste, who not only introduced him to the sport but also took him on his first bike vacation. Soon after taking that first bike tour, Shannon was planning private bike vacations. As a professional municipal planner, the organization came naturally, and it wasn’t long before he made the shift to the bike tour business full-time.

Shannon named the business VELO VIEW as a tribute to the unique way the world is seen from the saddle of your bike. Promoting and sharing that perspective - the view from the bike - is what Velo View Bike Tours is all about.

Velo View was founded in 2012 in Austin, Texas, and initially offered pre-scheduled bike vacation packages in destinations across the country, from California to Colorado to the Carolinas. However, after relocating to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2016 and discovering the incredible wealth of world-class cycling opportunities in his new backyard, the focus of the business shifted to custom tours in the Chattanooga tri-state region.

Velo View also began producing bike ride events in 2017 as a way to introduce even more cyclists to the fantastic bike riding the Chattanooga region has to offer. Cycle Sequatchie currently takes place the first weekend in October.

In 2020, Shannon teamed up with Kim Murrell of Chilhowee Outdoors to create Tennessee Gravel, a promotional project dedicated to bringing attention to the beautiful gravel roads of the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains east of Chattanooga.

  • Clark Brewer - Trail Therapy

This week Dawson and Clint sat down with co-founder of Bridge and owner of Huemans Outdoor, Clark Brewer jr. Clarks story is fascinating and ever evolving. Growing up in the inner city did not lend itself to off trail or outdoor adventures, but as a child Clark found a small area of woods near his home and started exploring on his own.

He now helps other kids and young adults discover the peace and confidence that can be found when they connect with the outdoors! Everyone brings different things to the trail - different life experiences, emotions, and perspectives, and they find that Mother Nature has something to offer them each person in their own way.

They covered a lot of ground; from a movie that Clark is in to leading hikes for kids and the journey to get where he is now! Plus - what's next for Clark and Huemans Outdoors. Really good perspectives - stories - and conversation!
