The scriptures say love is supreme. We love to love others and to be loved. God’s love empowers us to give out more than we might get back. It replenishes us and gives us the confidence to know even when life is tough, love softens and smooths over the rough spots that disrupt our hearts and interactions. Love deeply, friends. It is God’s way.

As we know, to practice is to rehearse a behavior repeatedly, for the purpose of learning and eventually mastering a skill. Learning to praise God is no different. In the practice we often uncover things about ourselves that we didn’t know – perhaps its our distain for discipline or maybe we don’t like expressing ourselves in an outward manner. Praising God is a posture of the heart. If we practice praising Him, we will be surprised at the ease in which we turn to Him this way, when things are difficult, and praise seems an unlikely response. Listen and then, yes, practice it.

Pursuing God is the only way to live a transformed life in Jesus. And practicing that determination of being the best version of ourselves comes only from allowing God to change us, step by step. It is in the quest to find Him that we open ourselves to His transforming ways – changing our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh – the blood of Christ carrying the oxygen of life to our very souls. Run after Him. He is near.

Surrendering is a tough concept. Only with God is it a safe bet because He is good and His intentions toward are always for our best. The flip side of surrender is trust. Giving God what we treasure is trusting God with the vulnerability of our hearts. His best for us is often seen in the tears of letting go of those things and people who mean the most to us. He knows you. He will never give you less than His best.

To live a life of sacrificial love is to allow God’s love to be ours. God’s love sacrifices, forgives, endures, isn’t offended, and prefers others over its self. This is all desirable, and admirable but unattainable on our own. Only by sacrificing our love, our ways, and our best intentions will we be clothed in a love that is willing give its own coat away for the sake of keeping another soul warm.

So what comes to mind when you try to think about 'what is authentic and true'? Someone's word, their promise? We constantly assess the truth of another's statement. Do we transfer those questions of whether the words are true to God as well? Perhaps we need to look closely at His promises and trust He indeed does speak truth in love. Always.

Mercy is Grace’s twin sister, the expression of compassion in response to our cry for help, for forgiveness, for a friendship. It is the kindness of strangers, the extravagance of love undeserved and the willingness to stay in it for the long haul. Mercy is a posture of loving well, as Jesus loved us.

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul wrote, Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real. Controlling our thoughts is key to our perception of God's kingdom. We don't control its existence, only our experience of it. Focusing on what is true, what is real, what is authentic positions us to see, really see God at work in a world that sees only the physical realm. There is more to living, more to life and we're invited to join God in living to the fullness of our purpose.

Peace is thought of as a frame of mind, or a condition of society. We seek it. We strive to attain it. We struggle when we don’t have it. But do know how to quiet ourselves so we can receive it? Practicing how to live in peace, is the practice of being quiet long enough for God to be acknowledged, long enough to listen receive this gift. As you listen today, practice quieting yourself. Then God will do what He does so well – He’ll give you peace that is beyond your comprehension.
