In community means being in communion with each other – a oneness that transcends human judgement, that loves unconditionally and seeks to live justly with each other. Our model is Jesus’ life, of course. In Him and with His spirit we experience this wholeness and wholesomeness of life as God intended. We experience moments of this. Might we consider as we listen today, what selfless living, sacrificial love should look like in our lives, as an expression of true love for one another?

Let’s be honest. When things are hard and we seem to be losing on every side; when everything goes wrong and we are unable to change the circumstances in which we find ourselves it is easy to think God has left us alone. He has turned His back. He isn’t paying attention right now. This Psalm cries out for God’s attention – to wake up. Yet, listen closely to the last line – rescue me because of Your unfailing love. Love never fails. God never fails. We can depend on it.

Look at your entire world, from within yourself to the world around you. God, who established the heavens, and formed us from the dust of the earth has put His spirit in us who believe His Son, transforming us in a moment into who He intended us to be. Although, we live in time and continue to see the effect of sin and decay around us, we are the first of all He will make new again. It’s a promise. From everlasting to everlasting.

The Psalmist reminds us that no matter how we feel and what we see, God will keep us safe and secure. It is in His presence we can see the truth of our situation. He shows us the way and in His faithful care of us we are rescued. Don’t be afraid.

Such a mystery, indeed! That God can and does live within us, His Spirit speaking with ours, guiding us, empowering us, protecting us and loving us. Where can we go and not see You, God? Where can we hide and not find you already there?! Such love we have yet to know – it is greater than anything we have experienced and yet – it is ours; it is God himself wanting to be a part of our everyday. Look for Him, within as you see Him in your outer world.

Today’s meditation is taken from Psalm 66. It is exciting when God hears us. Imagine! Creator of the Universe hears us! Each of us. When we call… He answers. How amazing! It’s something to tell others about. Have you noticed God’s care for you? Has He answered when you called Him? Just as the Psalmist is excited about God’s care for him, let’s tell our friends about the time God heard us, too.

The Psalmist speaks of disaster – mountains melting and oceans roaring, nations out of control and kingdoms falling. In the midst of it all, God is our refuge. God’s voice replaces the destructive forces with a power that is greater than the oceans and mountains, greater than kingdoms and rulers – even the earth must obey. We are safe in His city.

Today’s meditation is Psalm 66, verses 1-6. We often sing of God’s glory but do we take time think about what that is? His glory? The Psalmist says in the Message translation, Sing songs to the tune of his glory, set glory to the rhythms of his praise. There is a rhythm even to these words: the tune of His glory and the rhythm of His praise. He gives us the words, the praise to give back to Him. God fills our mouths with song. It bursts from our hearts and we can’t hold back from the majesty of Him. Even the earth, all that is in and on it, worships God. In Him we live and move and have our being. May we not hold back, or restrain ourselves from speaking the truth of who He is – King of the Universe.

The glory of God is displayed in the heavens, in the humility of Jesus to be a man and in the forever life we even now can live. Life, light and love are more than what we think or see or feel. They are the eternal presence of the everylasting, neverending, all powerful, always present God of the Universe.

Peace is from God. We try to generate it, duplicate it and think that by saying it, it happens. It is a spoken word originating from God and given to us. Words are life-giving, or life-taking. Accepting peace is an act of our will, and a posture of our heart through which life is reproduced in the fullness of God-likeness as we carry about the life of Jesus in us. Listen carefully and let the peace of God rule in your heart and mind today.
