Jesus' words are our words: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me.. to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor." It is with confidence, we can seek God for wisdom, for confidence and for an anointing. After all, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free."

What do we seek in life? For many of us, it is comfort and opportunity. Perhaps adventure is at the top of our lists. Can we honestly say it is to walk in wisdom and to discover our purpose? Verse 21 goes on to claim that these empower us! Of course, they do, when we think about it… to gain experience and insight into living well and to know why we’re here – that is how we count our days. That is why our blessings matter and that is why God cautions us to speak life into others’ lives. Our purpose includes learning and demonstrating what being an apprentice of Jesus looks like today.

This meditation gathers together several statements that confirm and remind us of the truths of being 'in Christ'. If we are made by God for doing good, given everything we need to accomplish what God has prepared already for us to do, might we then conclude that there is nothing that can keep us from doing it - except our own choices? It is our choice to trust and live in the belief that what God has planned can indeed be accomplished with and 'in Him'.

Wisdom is defined as “the ability or result of an ability to think and act utilizing knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight”. Verse 17 in this third chapter of Proverbs sums it up nicely: The ways of wisdom are sweet, always drawing you into the place of wholeness. That is what our hearts seek – to be whole, to live in that place of wholeness where we understand and accept ourselves and more importantly we ask God to add to us: knowledge, experience, common sense and insight so that to we are truly whole and living as holy beings in His world.

What are the rewards for seeking wisdom? In Proverbs 3, we’re told it is a satisfied life. That being faithful to what we learn, shapes integrity into our souls. It is from our souls that we live. It is there where our character is formed. It is there that our loyalty and values are shaped. With wisdom we can pursue the best God has for us, bringing health and completeness to our very souls.

For us who know God, we know the presence of God either changes us or changes the situation we’re in. God assures us He works everything for our good and according to His purposes. And what are His purposes? To change us into the sons and daughters He created us to be – just like His Son. So, if God is for us, who can be against us? Really, only us. God’s love for us never ceases, never diminishes. He is continually calling us to following Him into our future. To turn our hearts toward His so we can fully experience the goodness of our His love in every moment of our lives. In the tapestry of our lives, there is one strand that is interwoven into every fiber of our being; it is the love of God. Might we consider and realize there is no greater goal, greater purpose for ourselves than to grow up into the men and women of God? People who know we were made to carry light into darkness? Let’s be brave and follow His light – wherever He goes.

How amazing that God, who reigns in Heaven, a high and holy place, also resides with us, and in turn we with Him. In Christ, we have the privilege of containing the Spirit of God. Father, we are humbled by Your presence with and in us. Would You make us instruments of peace in this world?

Today’s meditation challenges us to trust God. If we listen as sheep listen trusting the one leading us that we will be fed, and protected, we can move through our days with confidence that we’re not alone, or forgotten. We can believe that goodness and mercy are with us every day of our lives. How much do we trust Him? What might be lurking in the shadows of our lives? When will our cups of fresh water brim and be enough? Is this really the right path to take, God? Take this time to establish your thoughts and put your trust in God's intended best for every moment of today.

For many of us, we know 'home' is a place of safety and shelter. God wants us to remember we have a 'home' in Him, where we are hidden from the chaos and trouble, where there is ease and comfort and we can be ourselves. Our Father's place is our place, even now.
