  • Spending Time with the Text: The Christ Hymns (Philippians 2:6-11)

Have you ever wondered how the earliest Christians worshiped as they gathered to remember Christ? While we have a few New Testament texts that describe what those early Christians did as they came together, we don't know much about what they sang, if they did at all. We do have several texts that scholars refer to as "Christ hymns" (Philippians 2:6-11, Colossians 1:15-20, John 1:1-14, Hebrews 1:1-4), but we have no proof that these hymns were sung in a church worship service. In today's episode, Dr. Corey Auen (Professor of Worship Arts) shares his insight into these Christ hymns and discusses how these texts can help us avoid what Robert Webber calls "worship narcissism."

  • Worship as Formative: A Conversation with Dr. Dinelle Frankland

How do our Sunday morning worship rituals impact the rest of our week? What elements of the corporate worship gathering are transformative and how do they work to transform us? Are we living in an era where Christians are seeking deeper worship practices, and if so, how does the contemporary evangelical church address this desire? Former DCC Professor of Worship, Dr. Dinelle Frankland, looks at these and other current worship topics as she discusses the transformative nature of corporate worship. Dr. Frankland currently serves as the Academic Dean for the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies and has spent the majority of her adult life teaching and mentoring others to be worshipers of God. This is an episode that you don't want to miss!
