"It's not the government's job to feed the poor. It's the church's job"

That line almost always gets justified with one verse: 2 Thessalonians 3:10. In this episode, we break down what Paul was addressing in Thessalonica, why some believers had stopped working, and how this passage gets pulled out of context to shut down conversations about poverty, public responsibility, and care for the vulnerable. We walk through the historical setting, the cultural problem Paul was correcting, and why this verse was never meant to function as a blanket statement about social welfare or government involvement.

We also used an excerpt from Vining Lake Church's pastor discussing this topic. In fact, it is the reason that we have this episode today (shoutout to such a well-spoken pastor).

Episode Two: 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Why do some Bible verses get quoted constantly, while others barely at all?

In this promo trailer for the Dear God Lettuce Pray podcast, host Santana introduces a show that slows Scripture down and reads it in context. This series explores verses that are often taken out of context, how misused Scripture pushes people away from faith, and what changes when the Bible is read carefully and honestly. That and we love storytelling the stories that are often skipped.

If you've ever felt uneasy with how certain verses are used, struggle with shallow answers, or stepped away from Christianity because the Bible felt weaponized, this podcast invites you to look again, without pressure or performance.

Season Two of the Dear God Lettuce Pray podcast opens with one of the most misused verses in the entire bible:

"Turn the other cheek".

Some folks use it to paint Jesus as soft. Some use it to guilt you into silence. And some weaponize it so you'll tolerate things God never asked you to tolerate.

This episode breaks down what Jesus was actually teaching in Matthew 5:39, using the real historical and cultural context that most people skip. You'll hear why this verse had nothing to do with letting people walk all over you, why Jesus wasn't promoting passivity, and why this moment was a direct challenge to the systems and power structures of His day.

If you've ever wondered what this verse really meant or if you just want to understand Jesus without all the social-media theology, this conversation is for you. We jump right into biblical context, emotional maturity, and how to practice boundaries and uphold your authority without losing the heart of Christ. That and...

Jesus wasn't a doormat. In fact, He was by far the realest and toughest guy I know.
