A few months after I had rescued him, I was ready to end my own life. But there he was sitting on the bed staring at me. I couldn't do it for the sake of him. For the next nine years together, he taught me how to love myself. 

Animals teach us humans many things, including how to love ourselves better. They are a mirror to the places inside of us we don't show anyone else.
