  • Under the Ban - Joshua 7
    • Who God Is: God is holy, just, perfect, and patient. His laws are an expression of His love, designed to protect us. His wrath is not arbitrary but a righteous response to persistent, unrepentant sin. • Who We Are: We are created in God's image with an innate desire to worship. Because of the Fall, this desire is broken. If we do not worship the one true God, we will inevitably find other things to worship (idols). • How We Should Live: o We must recognize the seriousness of sin and the holiness of God. o While our culture is more "sophisticated" and we may not bow to physical statues, we fashion our own idols from the things around us, hoping to find security, purpose, or happiness apart from God. o The story of God's judgment points us to our need for a savior. It is a picture of the wrath we all deserve. Jesus Christ lived the law perfectly, died the sinner's death to bear God's wrath for us, and rose again. We are called to place our faith in Him, who fulfilled the law we could not. The Church is God's intended solution for seeing His purposes worked out among people. As a community of believers, we are called to encourage one another to live according to God's ways. • We help each other recognize the things God has placed "under the ban." • We encourage each other to stay away from these things. • We remind one another that Christ took the wrath of God on our behalf for our transgressions, including the sin of self-worship. The only hope for giving God the glory He deserves is to trust in Christ alone, who took the wrath for the things under the ban upon Himself at the cross.

  • The Lamb Standing as if Slain
This devotional reflects on the vision of the Lamb in Revelation chapter five, emphasizing Jesus' worthiness to take the scroll because He was slain. It highlights that Christ purchased believers from every tribe and nation with His blood, serving as the ultimate atonement for sin. The text underscores that Jesus had no sin yet became a substitute for humanity, securing redemption through His sacrificial death. This act of purchasing establishes believers as a kingdom and priests who will reign with their Savior on earth. Consequently, the congregation is called to glorify God in their bodies, recognizing they are not their own but were bought with a price.

  • The Pity of Christ
John 11:35 'Jesus wept.' This sermon explores the theological significance of Jesus weeping at the tomb of Lazarus, highlighting His genuine humanity and deep sympathy for human suffering. The preacher emphasises that Christ's tears demonstrate His identification with the distress of believers and His sorrow over the devastating effects of sin and death. By examining the context of John 11, the message assures listeners that Jesus sees and cares for their personal griefs, offering comfort through His unconditional love. The narrative connects this event to the future resurrection, where death will ultimately be swallowed up in victory and all tears wiped away. Consequently, the sermon encourages believers to find hope and assurance in Christ's compassion and the promise of eternal life.

  • Discerning the Lord's Body
PM sermons are preceded by a Confessional, Catechism, Historic Creed lesson, or a lesson from the NT (Usually 5 minutes or so) WLC Q174: What is required of them that receive the sacrament of the Lord's supper in the time of the administration of it? A174: It is required of them that receive the sacrament of the Lord's supper, that, during the time of the administration of it, with all holy reverence and attention they wait upon God in that ordinance, diligently observe the sacramental elements and actions, heedfully discern the Lord's body, and affectionately meditate on his death and sufferings, and thereby stir up themselves to a vigorous exercise of their graces; in judging themselves, and sorrowing for sin; in earnest hungering and thirsting after Christ, feeding on him by faith, receiving of his fulness, trusting in his merits, rejoicing in his love, giving thanks for his grace; in renewing of their covenant with God, and love to all the saints. 1 Cor 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But....

  • Spiritual Blessings In Christ-Pt 1 Chosen In Christ
The sermon expounds on Ephesians 1, emphasizing that believers possess all spiritual blessings exclusively through their union with Christ. It contrasts eternal spiritual realities with temporal material gains, highlighting the doctrine of imputation where God counts Christ's righteousness to those who believe. The preacher explains that being chosen before the foundation of the world results in a status of holiness and blamelessness, not by human effort but by divine grace. This theological framework calls listeners to live out their new identity in Christ, putting off the old self and walking in the reality of their redeemed position. Ultimately, the message invites individuals to trust in the finished work of Jesus for salvation and eternal life.
