  • What the Law Could Not Do
The sermon examines Paul's synagogue sermon in Acts 13 to demonstrate that salvation comes exclusively through faith in Jesus Christ rather than adherence to the Mosaic Law. By analyzing the historical context of Paul's missionary journey and his rhetorical strategy, the text highlights how the gospel fulfills Old Testament prophecy and offers justification to all who believe. The preacher contrasts the inability of the law to save with the transformative power of the good news regarding Christ's death and resurrection. This message serves as a warning against returning to legalism while offering assurance of freedom from sin and eternal condemnation to believers. Ultimately, the transcript urges listeners to rest in the finished work of Christ and respond to the gospel with repentance and trust.

  • Interpreting Life
Interpreting Life The heart of this message is this: life is always preaching, and we need a preacher, like Solomon, who in Ecclesiastes helps us interpret life's message. But ultimately we need Jesus to interpret what life and the preachers, like Solomon, are saying. Because this world has been touched by sin, deception, suffering, and death, we cannot safely interpret life by our feelings, culture, circumstances, or the opinions of others. Jesus has graciously spoken beforehand so that when things happen, we can recognize what He has already said, believe Him, and walk in His light. LIFE IS PREACHING — JESUS MUST INTERPRET IT Jesus says in John 14:29, "I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe." His Word prepares us for what we will encounter. We may not always understand why something happens, but we can know how to walk through it because Christ has given us His truth, His Spirit, and His people. The world cannot teach us Christ. We do not interpret Jesus through the world; Jesus teaches us how to interpret the world. What the world calls good may not be good before God. What culture calls freedom may actually be bondage. Therefore, we must continually ask, "What has Jesus said?" THE KINGDOM HAS A DIFFERENT INHERITANCE In 1 Corinthians 6:9–11, Paul reminds believers that the unrighteous do not inherit the kingdom of God. But then comes the glorious word: "Such were some of you." We were sinners, but in Christ we have been washed, sanctified, and justified. And when Jesus washes somebody, He thoroughly washes them. His cleansing does not leave us half-clean. Grace not only forgives us; it repurposes us. We are sanctified—se

  • Maranatha | Come, Lord Jesus
The word Maranatha forms part of Paul's closing remarks to the Corinthians. It is an Aramaic word encouraging believers to remember that the Lord is really coming again. It is first of all a Word of Witness to His coming. Neither Pentecost, nor the death of the believer, some kind of spiritual coming fulfil the Lord's promises to come again. The word is also a Word of Challenge reminding us of the need to be ready. We find here a Word of Comfort for sick, sorrowing and suffering saints. Finally, it is a Word of Warning for those who are not prepared. Aligned to it is the Aramaic word Anathema, meaning "devoted to judgment." Here is the warning for those who do not love Him, or are not rightly related to Him. What will Christ's coming mean for you?

  • Ecclesiastes 9: Living Faithfully in the Face of Death
Ecclesiastes 9 confronts us with the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death. The righteous and the wicked both die, the strongest do not always win, and the wisest are not always recognized. Yet God calls us to receive His gifts with gratitude, work diligently, value wisdom, and live faithfully before Him. In this episode of Reading the Bible Daily with Dave, Dave Jenkins explains why death comes to everyone, why earthly outcomes cannot be controlled, and how Jesus Christ's resurrection gives believers hope beyond the grave. Because Christ has conquered death, Christians can live wisely, joyfully, and faithfully while placing their hope in Him alone.
