How are we responding to Jesus’ commission? Are we being faithful to His message, or are we compromising the truth? May God grant us the courage to speak faithfully and without compromise wherever He leads.

We are also the chief of sinners in our time, saved only by the grace of God in Christ. Before salvation we had a faulty view of self as good and worthy before God and men. But this verse humbles us both in ministry and life. When we live with self-confidence we are useless to God, but when our confidence is in God’s strength and grace we are vessels fit for His service. A truly born again Christian will confess that he is a sinner and even the foremost!

How do we see God’s compassion? To think that He forsook His son, Jesus, on the cross, so that He never needs to forsake you! To those in Christ, God is not a strict judge, but rather a loving father.

Even though we still sin, these do not condemn us, nor does death have any power over us. The law has been satisfied and God has been appeased in Christ. Armed with this powerful pronouncement, we are enabled to live freely in Christ as victors over sin. Grace is not license to sin—may it never be! It is the seedbed of righteousness. We know that if we abide in Christ, He is like an invincible fortress that protects us from every danger of condemnation. For those who abide in Christ, there is nothing but forgiveness and eternal love. The slanderous accusations of the devil are nothing but empty words. Jesus paid it all, and all to Him we owe.

Has spiritual glaucoma eroded your vision? Has your attention been consumed by your circumstances in such a way that you have forgotten the full picture? Remember that God’s ways are not your ways—and be grateful for that! For who but God would have sent His only Son to die so that we might live? His ways are good. Keeping this in mind will prevent tunnel vision.

How do you react when your biblical convictions are challenged? Do you rely on God’s word when the problems seem insurmountable? Our Almighty God is asking you to trust Him and stand firm on what He said, whatever comes. He is asking you to act upon your convictions.

When we consider who we are before God, we ought to be humbled that He would offer salvation to people who fall so short of His goodness. Praise Him for His goodness.

Oh, that we could learn from the faith of Nathanael, an Israelite in whom there was no deceit (John 1:47)! He was honest at heart and eager to believe the truth. And Jesus promised Him much more to come. As Augustine once said, “Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe.” Hold fast your sincerest belief in Jesus and He will show you great and wonderful things in and through His word.

And we pray that we would faithfully worship God in spirit and in truth, that God’s Spirit would convince us daily of the truth of God’s word and conform us to the image of God’s Son (Rom. 8:29). We must share God’s truth with the lost and apply God’s truth to our own lives, trusting the Spirit to bring about change in both instances. Pray with us, that true worshipers of God would grow greatly here, both in number and spiritual depth.

God used the greatest human evil, the murder of His Son, to bring about our greatest good—salvation. As we look to our lives, to the injustice around us and toward us, we ought to say with the apostle, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32).
