Are you feeling unequipped for the task? Seize the opportunities your church provides for you to be equipped. Seek to be discipled. As God grows you, then seek opportunities to disciple others. And pray for the missionaries who have gone out to raise up pastors and churches who will continue the model of Ephesians 4:11–12.

To make the most of the time, we are called to not lose sight of the opportunity to testify and to conduct ourselves wisely in our everyday relationships with family, at work, in school, etc. Remember, we were once the outsiders characterized by foolishness, rebellion, and rejecting God; but God, having redeemed us, grants us the capacity to display His wisdom. What an encouraging truth this is for growing our faith in our great Father. It is encouraging because of who we were when we received this love. We were prodigal sons—His enemies—despising the goodness of God. Yet He drew us back to Himself with His irresistible grace, and made us not only friends but children who inherit all of heaven’s blessings. It is also encouraging because of who He is to us; He is our Father, He calls us by name, and allows us to know Him. Truly what a great love we walk in as Christians!

By nature, we want to keep a record of wrongs and set limits on forgiveness. We don’t want others to take advantage of us, so we reserve mercy for situations that we deem worthy of it. But this text reminds us that true forgiveness that is characteristic of God’s kingdom is unending and without measure. God expects us to forgive just as He forgives us in Christ.

What shall we do then? First, we must remember that there is absolute truth. Second, there is a clear distinction between truth and lies. Christ is the ultimate manifestation and standard of truth (John 14:6). Satan and those who reject Christ are the ultimate manifestation of lies. Third, we need to remember that the gospel of Christ is the only hope for this postmodern world. Anchor your convictions in the truth and be faithful to share it with others.

The responsibility of a pastor and teacher is to explain the meaning of Scripture to believers and unbelievers so that they might know and understand what God desires. Thus, shepherds are under God’s watchful eye, and He looks at how we treat His word. Pray that God would raise up more faithful pastors in Honduras—and in the place where you live.

We dare not despise His goodness and kindness. Instead we must run to God and find in Him a true refuge. He is that refuge, and all who look to Christ in faith have their lives hidden in Him. God is good for many reasons, but His greatest good is Jesus Christ who died for us.

Has spiritual glaucoma eroded your vision? Has your attention been consumed by your circumstances in such a way that you have forgotten the full picture? Remember that God’s ways are not your ways—and be grateful for that! For who but God would have sent His only Son to die so that we might live? His ways are good. Keeping this in mind will prevent tunnel vision.
