In this episode, I’m thrilled to give you a behind-the-scenes look at one of television’s most iconic moments. In 1975, a young producer named Lorne Michaels was about to debut a show that would become a cultural phenomenon: *Saturday Night Live.* The new film *Saturday Night* takes us back to that electrifying night when the first episode aired. Production Designer Jess Gonchor masterfully recreated the vibe of 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the 1970s with impeccable attention to detail. Jess designed a fully immersive 360-degree set, replicating the original stage layout and showcasing every element of the show’s creation— from the makeup room and wardrobe to the control room and writers' offices. We dive into the challenges of building it all on one stage, the extensive research process, and how Jess brought this pivotal night to life on the big screen.

This week, I had the pleasure of chatting with the incredibly talented Production Designer, Roberto Bonelli, about his work on Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut, "Blink Twice." Join us as we dive into the fascinating behind-the-scenes story of how Roberto and his crew transformed Channing Tatum’s tech billionaire character’s private island into a captivating hacienda, packed with Victorian colors and intricate design elements. Roberto shares his journey of researching Yucatan architecture to choose the perfect location for this unique narrative. Repainting the compound in Victorian colors, adding details and expanding the pool area and using the existing jungle green to play off fits perfectly into the puzzle of the narrative. Roberto's innovative designs breathe life into every scene. He also tells of the stunning 9-foot tall light fixtures and a picture perfect custom-built sauna that add depth to the story.
Welcome back to Decorating Pages! Today, we're diving into the dark and intricate world of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Set in 1980 and 90’s Los Angeles, this season tells the haunting story of the Menendez family, whose polished, wealthy image masked a far more complicated and troubled reality. Joining me are Production Designer Matthew Flood Ferguson and Set Decorator Melissa Licht, whose work on this series brings the hidden turmoil of the Menendez family to life. Matthew and Melissa created spaces that tell a story within a story. From the pristine common rooms that reflect ‘new money’ luxury, to the messy, private spaces that reveal a deeper, darker psychological layer, every detail was designed to capture the paradoxes of the Menendez family. With careful recreations of period landmarks like Spago, authentic interiors like the Chateau Marmont suite, courtrooms, jails, and a subtle blend of symbolic elements, their work immerses us in a world that feels both glamorous and unsettling.
