Rottin' Roger sits down with Horror Holly to discuss a handful of tropes that slasher flicks love to use!
I grew up in Villisca, Iowa. Like most people from my hometown, I knew the story of the 1912 Villisca Axe Murders long before the rest of the world did.Over the years, I've watched that tragedy transform into one of America's most famous "haunted house" attractions. Ghost hunts, paranormal investigations, overnight stays, and endless claims of supernatural activity have turned the brutal murder of eight innocent people into entertainment. In this episode of The Deep Cut Podcast, I take a hard look at the real history behind the Villisca Axe Murders, separate documented facts from paranormal folklore, and explain why I've always had a problem with profiting from one of the darkest moments in my hometown's history. This isn't about proving or disproving ghosts. It's about asking a much bigger question:
At what point does remembering a tragedy become exploiting one?
Rottin' Roger loves "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" So, he decided to cover one of his all time favorite episodes "The Tale Of The Deadman's Float" Video Version AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE!
This week on The Deep Cut Podcast, we're talking about different types of horror fans. Part 2 takes a look at the Gatekeepers, Remake Haters, Schlock Masters, Spooky Seasons, and Elevated Horror Geeks. Some of these people annoy me. Some of them are my people. Either way, we've all run into them before.#HorrorPodcast #HorrorFans #HorrorCommunity #RottinRoger #DeepCutPodcast #HorrorMovies #Halloween #CultFilms #SlasherMovies #ElevatedHorror #HorrorGeek #MoviePodcast #HorrorDiscussion #Gatekeepers #HorrorTok
Every horror fan thinks they're unique... but after decades of watching horror movies, collecting tapes, attending conventions, and arguing online, I've noticed that most of us fall into a few recognizable categories.
In this solo episode of The Deep Cut Podcast, Rottin' Roger breaks down some of the most common species of horror fan you'll encounter in the wild. From Gorehounds chasing the next extreme shock film, to Slasher Fanatics who can name every masked killer from every forgotten sequel, to Collectors, Comfort Food Horror Fans, and Horror Historians who treat the genre like a living museum.
This is the first installment in what will likely become a multi-part series because there are WAY more horror fan archetypes out there than I could fit into a single episode.
So here's the challenge...
Which type of horror fan are YOU?
Did I nail your category? Did I completely miss one? Drop a comment and let me know what kind of horror fan you are, and suggest a horror fan archetype for Part 2.

Donald Pleasance plays yet another questionable psychiatrist while Martin Landau and Jack Palance absolutely steal the show as escaped mental patients, this movie doesn’t care if you're comfortable at all .Is it the first home invasion horror? Nope.
Is it one of the most entertaining and unpredictable? Absolutely.
Roger dives into what makes this cult classic so wild, why the characters are completely off the rails, and why this is a must-watch for any horror fan who likes their movies a little unhinged.
