About the Episode:
Julie Lowe shares her passion around kids/teens, especially those that are suffering. As Julie felt led by Scripture and the stories of broken families in the Bible, she felt led to pursue her counseling degree. Julie and her husband have a beautiful story behind their adopted children – the beauty as well as the hardship. She dives into what the Gospel is as it relates to raising children, families, and brokenness. She describes the “fast food” lifestyle of families instead of nourishing relationships through time and deep engagement, which involves being countercultural instead of embracing what is around us as it relates to technology specifically. She offers encouragement to families even if they feel it is too late to develop a relationship with their child or have “failed” in certain ways with their families. She highlights the importance of looking to God rather than the world or even other families as to how to shepherd their family looking for a formula. About Our Guest:
Julie Lowe is an author, speaker, and counselor. She holds an MA in counseling from Biblical Theological Seminary, is a licensed professional counselor with over twenty-ﬁve years of counseling experience, and is a registered play therapist supervisor. Julie served as a faculty member at the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF) for over 20 years and has lectured and taught at Missio Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary.
Julie has extensive experience teaching, speaking, and consulting with churches, schools, and other organizations around the country. She regularly teaches on topics such as marriage, women’s issues, sexual abuse, body image issues, parenting, adoption, and child maltreatment issues. She is trained in leading mandated reporter trainings and provides numerous trainings on child sexual abuse. Julie has a registered therapy dog that she works with both professionally and on a volunteer basis.
Her work and resources have been widely promoted by organizations such as Focus on the Family, The Evangelical Counsel for Abuse Prevention. and Paul Tripp’s Connecting Podcast.
Julie and her husband, Greg, live in the Philadelphia, PA, area and have ﬁve children. They have served for over 20 years as foster and adoptive parents.

Victor Boutros is the CEO and co-founder of the Human Trafficking Institute and co-author with Gary Haugen of “The Locust Effect: Why the End of Poverty Requires the End of Violence,” a book published by Oxford University Press in 2014. Drawing on real-world cases and extensive scholarship, The Locust Effect paints a vivid portrait of the way fractured criminal justice systems in developing countries have spawned a hidden epidemic of human trafficking and everyday violence that is undermining vital investments in poverty alleviation, public health, and human rights. The Locust Effect is a Washington Post bestseller that has been featured by the New York Times, The Economist, NPR, the Today Show, Forbes, TED, and the BBC, among others. For their work on The Locust Effect, Boutros and Haugen received the 2016 Grawemeyer Prize for Ideas Improving World Order, a prize awarded annually to the authors of one book based on originality, feasibility, and potential for global impact.
Boutros previously served as a federal prosecutor on human trafficking cases of national significance on behalf of the United States Department of Justice’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit. He has taught human trafficking at the FBI Academy in Quantico, trained law enforcement professionals in the United States and other countries on how to investigate and prosecute human trafficking, and taught trial advocacy to lawyers from Latin America, South and Southeast Asia, and Africa.
Boutros is a graduate of Baylor University, Harvard University, Oxford University, and the University of Chicago Law School, where he was an editor of the University of Chicago Law Review. He has written on foreign affairs and human rights, including a feature article in Foreign Affairs and a piece co-authored with former US Trafficking in Persons Ambassador John Richmond in the AntiTrafficking Review, and developed and taught a course on human rights, human trafficking, and the rule of law in the developing world at the University of Chicago Law School. Boutros speaks to corporate leaders, universities, and think tanks on human trafficking and has provided briefings to senior government leaders on human trafficking, including legislators, congressional committees, and the President of the United States.

Phil shares his journey through anxiety and how the Lord helped him unravel the source of that anxiety. As he shares, he talks about how he felt about himself from past experiences and comments and how it all came to a head with a panic attack. Through the work of a counselor and the help of the Lord, deep wounds were uncovered. Phil talks about his need to offer forgiveness to people he had never forgiven as a huge step in his recovery. Lindsey Sheppard and her husband, Clayton, have been married for almost 17 years. They have an eleven-year-old son, a nine-year-old daughter, and a six-year-old daughter.
Sara Hale loves being married to her husband, John, and being the mother of their two children. She is a member of PCPC who says "hello" to Aunt Carol, who watches the services from California each week.
Kristen Hatton is a Christian author, speaker, and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Kari Stainback, LPC-S. She has written three books for teenagers, one specifically addressing adolescent girls' struggle for identity and worth, and her latest book for parents, Parenting Ahead (April 2023 release date). In addition, she started a ministry for parents called Redemptive Parenting that includes The Redemptive Parenting Podcast. But after nearly 25 years of mothering and lay counseling stirred her desire for further training to better walk alongside those dealing with such issues as stress, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and relational issues that she commonly encountered, Kristen returned to school for a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.
As a professional counselor, Kristen works primarily with teen girls, young adult women, parents, and families. While she naturally operates from a biblical worldview integrating faith in counseling, Kristen gladly meets all clients where they are, for she believes the most important aspect of counseling is in the therapeutic relationship.
Furthermore, because Kristen does not see counseling as a one-fit-for-all, she draws from several counseling modalities, including family systems and cognitive behavioral therapy. Kristen and her husband have three adult children and a son-in-law. Outside of work, Kristen is active in her church and enjoys being outdoors, traveling, entertaining, writing, and watching football. Kelly M. Kapic is Professor of Theological Studies at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, where he has taught since 2001. He has written and edited over fifteen books, including You're Only Human, which won the Christianity Today Book of the Year Award in Theology (Popular) and the Southwestern Journal of Theology 2022 Book of the Year Award (Applied Theology/Ethics) and Embodied Hope (IVP Academic, 2017), which won the Book of the Year Award from Christianity Today in the category of Theology and Ethics and World Magazine’s Short List award for Accessible Theology Book of the year. Some of his other work includes the widely used text A Little Book for New Theologians and two volumes with the economist Brian Fikkert: Becoming Whole: Why the Opposite of Poverty isn’t the American Dream and A Field Guide to Becoming Whole: Principles for Poverty Alleviation Ministries. He received the 2023 Georgia Author of the Year Finalist Award (Inspirational).
An active speaker and collaborator, Kapic has also worked on research teams funded by the John Templeton Foundation and has written for various academic journals and popular magazines, including serving on the Board of editorial consultants for the Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care.

Katherine and Jay Wolf are survivors, communicators, and advocates. Originally from the South, the two met in college, married, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue law school for Jay and the entertainment industry for Katherine. Their son James was born in 2007, and just six months later, Katherine miraculously survived a catastrophic stroke caused by a congenital brain defect she never knew she had. After a sixteen-hour brain surgery, forty days in the ICU, a year in neuro rehab, and eleven operations, she continues her recovery to this day. In 2015, she gave birth to miracle baby, John.

Pete Fitzsimmons has spent the last three years committed to The PE program; The Covenant School’s Logic Football program, Rhetoric Boys Soccer program, and Rhetoric Baseball program. As a four-year collegiate soccer and baseball starter at East Texas Baptist University, he earned many accolades, including the Top Tiger Award (2010), Captain and All-ASC Third Team (2011), All-ASC First Team (2012), and All-ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year (2012). Between his time at ETBU and Covenant, Coach Fitzsimmons attended the Kanakuk Institute (2015) and worked for K-Life Ministries and Park Cities Presbyterian Church. He currently attends and is active in community and service at Watermark Community Church.
Drew Obenchain specializes in group fitness with the ability to scale workouts for all different levels of athletes. Kingdom Workouts provided tailored daily workouts to individual clients as well as offering in-person group training with other Kingdom members. Drew has always loved fitness and being active, he played multiple sports throughout his life, but his passion evolved once he was introduced to CrossFit during his sophomore year at Texas A&M. In 2012 he suffered a devastating back injury while training, which opened his eyes to the importance of proper training as well as physical therapy. Since then he has been motivated to teach others how to not just train hard, but to train well. He now works at Corpus Performance Training. When not training, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Kara, and new baby, Hattie. He is grateful for the opportunity to pursue his passion of fitness as his full-time career and attributes it all to the goodness of God. John Paul Schulze is the Director of Young Adults and Community Formation. He is married to the lovely Katie Schulze and they have two daughters and a son named Libby, Ellie, and JPIII. About Our Host:
A graduate of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mark Davis came to PCPC as our Youth Pastor in 2003 and became our Senior Pastor in 2009. He and his bride, Kristina, met at a Young Life Camp in 1988 and have five amazing kids, Kara (and husband, Drew), Madalyn (and husband, Jack), Cayden, Esther Kate, & Samuel.
