In this session, we had the lovely opportunity to catch up with one of our dear friends back from university, Narda! Again, we had such a great discussion with one another, hence we had to split this into two parts; don't forget to listen to Part 2 to get the whole story!

In this Part 1, we talk about Narda's experience in Indonesia's most prestigious national-wide beauty pageants. Despite initially having doubts about joining due to the negative connotations that beauty pageants sometimes come with, she decided to change her perspective and do it for a greater reason. Her noble intentions truly showed result: she earned the title of runner-up back in 2018!

Her story so far translates into something very meaningful: facing your greatest fear head on can be one of the most effective ways to overcome it. We may end up doing something that we never expected to be doing. And even if things don't always go according to plan, there is still a great possibility that they could fall into place beautifully. Keep your morals close to your heart, and realise your self-worth.

Welcome to the second part of our chat with Felix! 

Since in Part 1 we were left hanging on the financial aspect of being a teacher, in this Part 2 he first touches on exactly that. In the first discussion of our new segment (or season; whichever you want to call it!), we had one of our university friends come on: Felix! It truly has been a while since we all talked together, which explains the long conversation. In this first part, we talk about how life has been for Felix after we all parted ways after graduation. Despite graduating with a degree in pharmaceutical sciences, Felix decided to take the education path. Since graduation and up until today, he works as a biology teacher in his previous school while also pursuing a master's degree in education at the same time. Aside from expressing that this field was indeed his true passion since he was young, he also highlights the struggles that teachers may face during the pandemic which he feels some people at times overlook compared to other professions.

So.. it's been a while! 

Seeing that we are about to close the year, we decided to reflect on what has happened in the past year, what we learnt from these experiences, and what we wish to start (or stop!) doing from this moment onwards. Despite the rollercoaster that was 2020 (and this episode, similarly!), we touched upon QUITE a number of things that we can take away from our experiences; accepting yourself, moving on from the past, focusing on the present, being grateful... just to name a few of them! After you listen to this episode, we hope that you can also take a moment to reflect on how the past year or several months have been for you and what are some of the actions you can do to improve. Last but not least, thank you for sticking with us this far; we hope that some of our talks have been beneficial for you this season, and we hope to deliver more fruitful contents in the next! Does having a lot of money always mean that you are good at managing your finances? Similarly, does having very little of it mean that you are bad at managing your money? But if the answers to these questions are "yes", why do we still see some relatively wealthy people filing for bankruptcy? 

To discuss further into the significance of finance management in our lives, we invited Angelica: the great mind behind @themindfulspenderblog who is very passionate about raising awareness around this issue especially to our fellow young adults, some of whom are still financially illiterate. This episode, like the rest of the content on this podcast, does not focus on a "how-to" approach but rather an avenue to help us all think more deeply about the importance of managing our money--whether we have little or a lot of it--and the significant impacts that it can have on our day-to-day choices.

In this reflective episode, we discuss about our thoughts on and relationship with our parents, which we find to have changed as we got older. We begin by remembering about how we used to think about our parents when we were younger. We then move on to discuss about a point or period in time when we started to see them differently, in such a way that shapes our perception of them today. Throughout this reflective session, we recall the importance of respecting and appreciating our parents. Although we might not agree with some of their ways, and despite the flaws, our parents ultimately just want the best for us; it is hard being a parent, let alone a perfect parent.

Having to move from one environment to another is unquestionably difficult, especially if these two places pose different norms and cultures. 

In this episode, we're back to just the two of us again! As Nadhira prepares to return back to Indonesia more permanently after quite a while, we decide to touch upon culture shock and reverse culture shock; what they are, and the possible reasons behind why they happen. We also reflect on what we both previously have experienced firsthand: what Nadhira felt about the culture shock when she first moved to Qatar and then about the reverse culture shock whenever she goes back to Indonesia, and how Jessica tackled the reverse culture shock when she moved back to Indonesia after spending some time studying abroad in Malaysia and in the UK.

We hope that this discussion can be beneficial and relatable to you, especially to those of you who might have just moved abroad for the first time and those of you who have just returned back to your home countries after having spent a considerable amount of time abroad.

Last time, we thought about how to try to make it in the corporate world. We then thought further, however, about how we could approach our career by being an entrepreneur instead (especially given the current situation, where the job market isn't at its friendliest!). Yet, some of us may be afraid to start, because of the risk that comes with starting your own little business from scratch, especially if you have minimal experience AND that market is already saturated. So, we decided to talk to our friend, Holly, who tackled just that; at 16 years old, she had the initiative to start her own online shop by herself, which still lasts until today. Despite her relatively young age and zero initial experience, she was able to make use of the existing resources around her and figure it out, slowly but surely, with strong passion and hard work.

In this episode, Holly tells us about what sparked her idea and how she gathered the required resources to start. She also shares with us the valuable points, both the good and the bad, that she learnt so far as she grows with her business. This definitely is a fun yet fresh insight on the online shop world for us.
