You know when you're a kid and you meet someone at school or on the playground, and you discover that you both love [insert shared obsession here], and that one connection turns into several, and before you know it, it's time to go home and you just had the greatest time with your new friend? Well, that's what today's episode of Defining Talent is like when Laura and her guest rave about their mutual love of Sam Shepard, cats, theatre, and more. Do they find the answer to the question "how do you define talent?" Well . . . you'll just have to listen to find out.
Today's guest is none other than Dr. Katherine Weiss, the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Cal State LA. Dr. Weiss is an alumnus of Cal State LA, having graduated Summa Cum Laude with her M.A. in English Literature before going to the U.K. to pursue her Ph.D. at the University of Reading. She then taught in Poland for a few years before returning to the States, where she eventually landed at East Tennesse State University, becoming a full tenured professor for their Department of Literature and Language, where she also served as Chair for several years. She is an ardent scholar of theatre, particularly the works of Samuel Beckett and Sam Shepard, whom she has written about for countless publications, including her book The Plays of Samuel Beckett.
