The "thing" I shared this week is a clip from a podcast I co-hosted. I regularly mix / master podcasts, but this side of me isn't really seen in my portfolio, so I'm fixing that. Perhaps this clip can shed light on my personality, absurdity based sense of humor, and affinity for physics.

I wanted to challenge my music composition skills, so I composed one of the most difficult yet melodic pieces I could imagine while recording with techniques used in ASMR. My former piano teacher, Ruth Cruikshank, performed this live recording of the piece.

I imagined what a sexy funk song written by a modern Vincent van Gogh would sound like and this popped out. I met artist St. Abel online who offered to help pull the piece together with her sultry mostly-British voice. Think I should keep working with her? Like if you want and share if it's worth sharing! "Tribute" is a soon-to-be-released indie film by a friend back in Manitoba. I offered to create an acoustic score in the two days before the film was due, and this is the final song. I'm very influenced by the mellow and warm acoustic sounds from Life is Strange and Juno. I hope you can enjoy this simple, lo-fi, emotional acoustic piece.

Physicists travel and relocate frequently to universities and national labs. I had the privilege of meeting up with Joe McLaughlin, a fellow physicist and metal head from the band Christ Complex in the brief window he is visited Vancouver. I've tried and failed to make metal music in the past; something about it my brain can't comprehend. This is not the case for the guitar wizard, Joe. We teamed up and combined our skills to arrange, perform, record, mix, and master a deathcore cover of 'All Along the Watchtower', a Vietnam War anthem most popularly performed by Jimi Hendrix.

Ever see Swiss Army Man with Daniel Radcliffe? The movie with the farts? The film and soundtrack inspired me to challenge my fears head on and embrace what makes me weird, so this week I composed a (mostly) 7/4 A Capella piece. I know it's far from top 40, but I (hope I) was able to capture a roller coaster of emotion within this piece. It can mean whatever you want it: prepping for a surgery, battling cancer, being stoned off your ass, etc. I'm really happy with how it turned out and how far I've come in the last six months.
