Here is the first of three consecutive video game movie episodes for this season! First up, it's the new Mortal Kombat movie. Joining me again for this episode is Mr. Multiverse! The discussion includes comparisons to the older films and the ways in which this new one that came out in January fell short, such as through its characters and how they were handled and portrayed. It even includes a bit of back and forth on unfortunate implications that sometimes happen in filmmaking intentionally or unintentionally. So as Scorpion says, "Get over here!"
3:10 - The moment Mr. Multiverse mentions from the Peter Capaldi interview on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson can be found at the timestamp in this YouTube video.
3:55 - Craig Ferguson and Neil Gaiman talking about Doctor Who here.
5:25 - Check out Delayed Replay's episode about Wonder Woman 1984.
27:10 - For context, Mr. Multiverse lives a few states away from New York.
28:50 - According to this section of Kitana's Wikipedia article, Kitana's original name was Kitsune, which is the Japanese word for Fox. However, the name was changed to Kitana because the former being Japanese was not deemed compatible with "Shang and Shao who were both Chinese in origin." Kitana ended up being a combination of "Kitsune" and "Katana."
30:40 - 31:45 - Spoilers for Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.
37:30 - Check out Delayed Replay's episode about Jungle Cruise.
46:00 - From this October 15, 2012 interview with John Tobias: "The 'K' in 'Kombat' came about during the trademark process in naming the game. We really liked Mortal Combat as a name, but it couldn’t get past legal. So we changed the 'C' to a 'K,' and the rest is history."

On this episode, I talk with Mr. Multiverse about the MonsterVerse film Godzilla vs. Kong, which came out last November in our universe but is coming to HBO Max sometime soon in that other universe! We talk about our experiences with the characters and Kaiju films in general before we delve into this modern interpretation of 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla. What did we think of the human characters? How were the fights? How did we feel about the ending? Listen and find out!
Show Notes:
8:30 - I now remember that the first time I ever heard about King Kong was when I was very little and heard him compared to Tarzan in Rugrats episode "Party Animals."
10:00 - Here's the Paramount+ preview of the new Rugrats show.
15:00 - The production history for King Kong (1976) is a bit complicated. Check out the Wikipedia article. There's also a bit more in the section about ownership on Wikipedia's character page.
24:00 - The "chili pepper on the cake" joke originated from Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast.
40:00 - Forgot to mention that I really didn't like The Cloverfield Paradox.

This time, it's the new Tom & Jerry movie (which comes out next week in that other universe). What did we think of the mix of animation and live-action? How generic did parts of this movie feel? And how riveting were our tangents about the Super Mario Bros. film and Spaghettiman, among other things? Listen and find out!

It's been a long three months since the last MCU movie, but we got a new one in time for the Lunar New Year! On this episode, I'm joined by Mr. Multiverse to talk about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. How well does this film work as an origin story? Did any of the humor work well? Was it the pay-off that we were waiting for when it came to the Mandarin? Listen and find out!

New year, new season. That's right. Each year is a season, even though there are four seasons in a year. And there are four of us on this season premiere. (Wow. That rhymed.) I'm talking about last year's Kingsman prequel The King's Man with fellow University of Sussex Sci-Fi & Horror Society members Ted, Greg, and James. How well did this work as a prequel? What were some of our favorite action sequences? What food-related topics do we get into that leave Ted feeling unsettled? I won't spoil it here; listen with your ear!
